๐Ÿ“ˆ Content Marketing Trends - you need to know!

๐Ÿ“ˆ VIDEO: 12.2 billion minutes of video were watched in 2020 which equates to 23,211 years of content. I'll let that sink in...
Video isn't going anywhere, so if it's not in your content strategy somewhere, add it in - it's only going to grow. It's already the primary form of media for the second year in a row.

๐Ÿ“ˆ PODCASTING: Not strictly social media, but podcasts are growing at an astronomical rate. In Oct 2020, there were 34 million episodes and over 1.5 million active shows. They're popular because there's something for everyone and they have the ability to really drive results. If you're a brand thinking of starting one, do it! It establishes your brand as a source of industry authority ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿ“ˆ VALUABLE CONTENT: The pandemic has meant that consumers are spending a lot of time on social media meaning it's going to take high quality valuable content to stop that scroll.

๐Ÿ“ˆ REPURPOSING CONTENT: Reuse your existing high-value content. Simply use the same content just present it in a different way. E.g. turn your Instagram carousel into a video.

A new month means new goals!

Outlining your goals should be the first thing that you do when you start creating your social media strategy as your goals will determine the direction of your actions and content.

As marketers we like to create SMART goals, but for those non-marketers, let me explain what exactly this means!

๐ŸŒŸSpecific: Your goal needs to be as clear as possible, no wishy-washy stuff here! If you want to gain new followers - how many exactly is that? If you want to increase your reach, by how much do you want to do this? Being specific is going to make tracking your goal much easier.

๐ŸŒŸMeasurable: Your goal needs to be measured in some way. If it's social media driven, using Insights would be helpful here. If you can't measure your goal, how do you know if you're successful or not?

๐ŸŒŸAttainable: Goals should be pushing you forwards, not putting unnecessary pressure and stress on you. They should be realistic, so achieveable but work is still required to get there.

๐ŸŒŸRelevant: Your social media goals should relate to your overall business goals, so make sure they're relevant. For example, if you are wanting to reach new audiences on Instagram, do you know how that will help you achieve your wider business targets?

๐ŸŒŸTime-bound: And finally, your goal should have a deadline. When you reach the deadline that's when you should reflect and use your metrics to see if you have been successful or not. Set incremental check ins along the way to keep yourself on track.

๐ŸŒŸ Here's an example of a SMART Goal: "We will use Facebook to increase our website click through rate to 30% by the end of the quarter".

If you've hit a creative wall, what do you like to do?

I always find it really helpful to create a mood board (or I often create one when I take a new client on!) so that you are taking yourself away from creating your content and instead thinking about something else. Not only is your brain thinking about something else, you will be getting new inspiration from the different colours/photos/templates that you are putting together to break down that wall!

Stick to the same industry as your business, the same brand values and also the same aesthetic as much as you can.

And don't forget - don't copy someone else's work! Take inspiration from them and think how you can use what you like in your own business ๐Ÿ’œ

Have you ever wondered how long your post lasts once youโ€™ve hit publish? ๐Ÿ‘€

Well, hereโ€™s a lil graphic to show you just that!

Twitter is super fast-paced so itโ€™s a good idea to post a couple of times a day whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Pinterest keeps your pin visible for up to 3 months! ๐Ÿ˜Š

As online shopping continues to rise itโ€™s a good idea to ensure that your products are also shop-able on social media. You can do this by creating a โ€œshopโ€ and tagging your products in your posts.

To create your shop, you will firstly have to do this on Facebook in Commerce Manager. Add your products to a Catalogue ensuring your product descriptions and prices are all correct and in line with whatโ€™s showing on your website. Youโ€™ll now be able to tag your products in your Facebook posts. When someone clicks on a tagged product they will be able to see more information about it and will be able to buy it.

Then, you will need to connect your Facebook Shop to your Instagram account so that you can tag your products on this platform too. In Instagram, head to Settings -> Business -> Set up Instagram Shopping and follow the process.

And done! ๐Ÿ’œ

If youโ€™d like any assistance with setting up your Instagram shop (or your Facebook one!) please get in touch ๐Ÿ˜Š

Do you know the difference between boosting a post and creating an ad campaign on Facebook?

Each has their pros and cons, letโ€™s take a look in more detail...

๐Ÿ’œ Boosted Post ๐Ÿ’œ
๐Ÿ’œ Good for brand awareness.
๐Ÿ’œ Drives traffic.
๐Ÿ’œ Ideal for small businesses who are in the first steps of Facebook advertising.

๐Ÿ’œ Limited audience targeting.
๐Ÿ’œ Less ROI.
๐Ÿ’œ Not great for conversion.

๐Ÿ’›Ad Campaign ๐Ÿ’›
๐Ÿ’› Better audience targeting.
๐Ÿ’› More specific ad objectives.
๐Ÿ’› More placement options.
๐Ÿ’› Better ROI.

๐Ÿ’› More costly.
๐Ÿ’› Requires research and skills to carry out a successful campaign.

Happy Friday everyone!
I saw this quote about social media and thought it summed it up quite well so wanted to share it with everyone ๐Ÿ’œ

Social media is all about community. It's so important to engage with your community whether you've got 50 followers or 10k and actively encourage others on the platform too. I think this is particularly true of small businesses and something that they often do so well. Of all the brands I follow on social media, small businesses really engage and encourage their communities (often full of other small businesses) the most and I just love seeing it ๐Ÿ˜

So, let's share the love this Friday and get supporting each other in any way we can ๐Ÿ˜‡

A great way for you to tag and support your favourite small businesses is to use the new Support Small Business Sticker on Instagram Stories.

Take a photo or video and add this to your story and open the Stickers. Type "Small Business" into the Search bar and this sticker will pop up. Tap on the sticker and then type the business's name in and select the account you'd like to tag.
Tap the sticker to show different display options and then hit publish once you're happy!

Using this sticker will give your followers a preview of the business's Instagram page when they tap the sticker. It's a great way for small businesses to get their products and services out to a new audience. The business you have tagged will also receive a notification and can then choose to repost your story.

What is Alt Text and why should you be using it?

Alt Text makes your content more accessible. Literally. The Alt Text will be displayed instead of the image when the Internet is slow and more importantly will be read by screen readers for those that are visually impaired. The Alt Text is a description of what your image is.

So, here's why it's important. Firstly, you want everyone to be able to access your content. And secondly, it helps with your discoverability. Instagram will use the Alt Text when people are using the Search tool - sort of like SEO for Instagram!

Good Alt Text is short and concise. Describe the most important aspects of the image and use no more than 100 characters. To add Alt Text, you can do this in Advanced Settings when creating your post.

If you have any questions about Alt Text or aren't sure how to write it, get in touch! ๐Ÿ’œ

Another "How to..." post incoming!

This one is all about "How to create branded artwork quickly for social media".

Here I show the brilliant tool that is Canva's Brand Kit which I use to create my own social media content and also my client's. By uploading your logos, brand fonts and brand colours means that your social media content is always going to be on brand and look consistent - every marketer's dream! ๐Ÿ’œ
AND you can make it super quick - no more searching for fonts or typing in HEX codes - RESULT ๐Ÿฅณ

It is worth noting that to use Canva's Brand Kit, you do need to purchase a Pro Subscription, BUT I have to say that it's definitely worth it. It's relatively inexpensive as to how much you're going to use it and save time. Plus, you get other super helpful tools when you purchase a subscription too.

What other tools/kits/websites do you use to create your social media content quickly?

If you'd like to get in touch about your social media strategy and content, you can do so in the following ways:
