Redcar High Street is set to receive a facelift thanks to investment from the Redcar Town Deal.

Residents and tourists will soon see improvements to the area such as new street furniture, more landscaping with plants and trees, improved lighting and more.

This is to help create a vibrant town centre which attracts more visitors and residents, supporting local independent businesses, jobs and attracting further investment.

Members of the public including local business owners are being invited to a special drop-in event to see new images of the proposals. The event takes place on Thursday 22 June at Rediscover Redcar on West Terrace between 10am and 7pm.

The attendees will get first sight of the new CGI images and project plans and will be able to speak directly to architects, designers and contractors directly involved in each featured development.

If people cannot make the event, there will be an opportunity to view the CGI images online. You will be able to find this at https://redcartowndeal.com/ following the event.

Springing back into action and no more being told.

It’s been tough this past year for our All singing, all dancing, all drinking, all eating, all trading, all together bohemian market.

It’s been tough on local businesses and it’s been tough on residents. The decisions made have been unfair, imbalanced and weighted against localism, against the economy and because closing local specialist markets is easy, it’s been lazy. (What happened to Saltburn’s Farmers’ Market too was disgraceful and unnecessary at that time.)

Local businesses with and without units, hospitality, entertainment, artists, transporters, producers have received unfair distribution of funding while our national purse has been robbed and handed out to undeserving cronies. We’ve watched, shackled by restrictions as local businesses fold and we are banned from acting - no more. If we can’t use our public areas we will find another way to trade and entertain SAFELY.

We can no longer stand by as local leaders leave us at the mercy of the national government’s sweeping decisions to lump us in altogether with high infection areas and cancel our safely managed local markets. All the while turning a blind eye to national supermarkets’ across Tees Valley being poorly managed, allowing youths to gather in large groups with nothing better to do and allowing visitors to clamber over each other at our beauty spots. This while allowing our local NHS services to become overrun because they won’t increase what they stripped away for the ten years before the pandemic.

Total hypocrisy, sucking the life out of our local economy with no counter action, ruining entrepreneurialism and small business, adding 15% to our dole queues without principles.

We will be back! We will be changing! We will be supporting our economy and getting small businesses with and without a base, back working. We will give people a safe and entertaining day out that you can’t get at any supermarket. We must support local businesses, entrepreneurs and local youth back into jobs. Today we must start that fight back.

Happy New Year to you all and to all who have been part of our journey. We are making plans and want you to be part of them. Stay safe and all the very best for our futures. It is clearly in our own hands.
