Most businesses do not need brand work right at the start.

They need traction, proof, customers, and momentum first.

But there comes a point where the business is growing, the founder is still holding too much together, and the brand has not caught up with where the company is heading.

That is the sweet spot.

Usually, it shows up in stage 2 or 3.

Stage 2 is when you are known, getting work, and growing, but still too involved in everything.

Stage 3 is when you are trusted and established, but the brand still feels I inconsistent, disconnected, or too reliant on you behind the scenes.

A few signs you are there:

* too much of the brand still sits in your head
* stepping back feels risky
* your website no longer reflects the quality of the business
* your messaging and visuals feel mixed
* the business is growing, but the brand still feels pieced together

Being involved in the judging has been a real reminder of how much sits behind every business name on a shortlist. The long hours, the pressure, the problem-solving, the persistence, and the belief it takes to keep building something of your own.

Micro businesses do not have endless layers of support behind them. In many cases, they are built through sheer determination, care, and consistency.

That is what makes recognition like this meaningful.

Oh go on then, I’ll jump on it.

Logo Archive has started a huge movement on Instagram, with designers sharing logo work from over the years, so here’s a mix from me.

Some new.
Some old.
Some that made it out into the world.
Some that never saw the light of day.

I don’t always like showing final logos on their own, because they only tell about 2% of the full brand journey.

Behind every logo there’s strategy, research, positioning, typography, colour, tone, layout and a lot of decisions that shape the wider identity.

The final mark might look simple, but it rarely tells the full story.

So these aren’t just logos to me.

They’re little snapshots from much bigger brand journeys.

Still love them all for different reasons.

Very lucky I get to do this for a living.

100 years old… what a legend. 👏🏼

Happy Birthday to David Attenborough.

If you know me personally, you’ll know one of my biggest passions outside of design is wildlife and the ocean (yes… that’s why I have a shark tattoo 😂).

Funny enough, I never originally wanted to become a brand and graphic designer. My dream growing up was actually to become a marine biologist working with sharks and jellyfish.

At university, I even worked on a project around shark finning — creating branding and campaign concepts for shark charities and wildlife conservation initiatives. So I guess the “branding” path was always there somewhere.

Honestly, Sir David was a huge part of my childhood. Him, Society documentaries, and anything involving sharks (I absolutely love shark week), deep oceans, or weird creatures… I was obsessed. 😂

And somehow, after all these years, hearing that voice still feels calming.

Thank you for spending decades educating people, inspiring generations, and reminding us that this planet is something worth protecting.

And a huge shoutout to organisations like , Conservation Society, and for continuing to fight for some of the world’s most fragile ecosystems. 🌊🦈
