Flashback Friday: Remember this guy?
Back in the 90s, Clippy was meant to be helpful.
Instead, it became one of the most irritating things on the internet.
Not because technology was bad. But because it felt forced, generic and oddly soulless. And yet, fast forward 30 years and we’re seeing the same thing happen again.
This time it’s not paperclips popping up on screen.
It’s endless AI-generated graphics that all look the same.
Perfect gradients. Identical fonts. Overcrowded layouts. And that same shiny “AI look” people spot instantly. The problem isn’t AI itself, we use AI tools every day.
The problem is when businesses stop designing and start prompting without direction.
Good design and brand personality still matter, because customers can absolutely feel the difference between thoughtful creative work and mass-produced content.
Clippy taught us something useful years ago:
Just because technology can do something doesn’t mean people will enjoy it.
The businesses that stand out over the next few years won’t be the ones using the most AI. They’ll be the ones using it well, while still sounding and looking human. At Golden Frog we're proud to invest in real people, real creativity and real design thinking to deliver marketing that actually connects with customers.
