THEY SAY…

…time flies when you’re having fun. We would have to agree. This summer Vonderbrand celebrates 10 years in the world of Marketing and Design - a decade of advertising strategy, search engine optimisation, corporate branding and graphics. Faced with the same challenges all businesses encounter we have always made a point of meeting each one head-on.

EVERY DAY IS A SCHOOL DAY.
Since 2012 the company has been on a path of evolution. Each member of this band of marketeers brought unique skills to the party on day one, but since then we have all grown in terms of qualifications and experience. Those early foundations got the business off the ground, however the results we have delivered to our clients over the years have paid dividends to our growing reputation.

THE FUTURE.
As with most businesses, our expansion plans were stifled by the recent lockdowns. Any notion of branching out had to be placed on the back burner. With a brighter outlook and the emergence of new marketing channels we are excited about the coming year. Our social media marketing software will be ready for launch in summer (watch this space), meanwhile the additional layers of complementary marketing services we have been trialling will become a permanent addition to the Vonderbrand menu.

CHEERS!
We raise a glass to all our clients - the ones who have been with us from the start and the ones who joined us during the pandemic. Without you there would be no band of marketeers and nothing to toast. We also thank our trusted suppliers - you have never let us down.

BE MORE DISCOVERABLE

Leaving aside supply chain disruption, many e-commerce businesses have managed to get through lockdown pretty much unscathed. Some have even seen an increase in sales thanks to profound changes to our shopping habits.

For bricks-and-mortar businesses, however, adapting to the digital world overnight has not been easy! If lockdown has taught us anything, it’s that being discoverable online can make the difference between treading water and sinking.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that every business needs a website (though it certainly will not harm your cause to have one). It is more about making it possible for would-be customers to tap into your vital statistics when they are in the market to buy the things you sell.

BEING CONSPICUOUS DOESN'T HAVE TO COST ANYTHING...

Google My Business is free to set up and makes it easy for retailers and service providers to convey essential information such as contact numbers, opening times, customer reviews, product images and shop location.

Likewise, Facebook and Instagram both offer an ideal stage to showcase products, campaigns and events. Better still, the algorithms which drive social media platforms allow you to cultivate a ‘following’ by presenting your content to an audience which is likely to find it relevant.

Review websites such as Trustpilot and Feefo have turned testimonial marketing into a formidable growth strategy. Having a 4.5 star rating spread across dozens of reviews makes for a compelling sales pitch.

Being discoverable on the internet is crucial to business. Whether it is via a website, social media, customer reviews, videos or simply a pin on Google Maps, all businesses benefit from a digital presence.

Google’s Next Update - Page Experience

On its way is Google’s latest metric and this time it’s personal!
Focussing on content stability, engagement, interactivity, page load time and overall user-friendliness, this “Page Experience” update is all about making the user happy.

If your website is fast and easy to use, great! If, however, you are presenting the user with a chaotic page layout, limited internal links, sluggish load speed and superfluous design flourishes, you may need to invest in a parachute as you are likely to fall in rank.

This update is good for business and long overdue. It encourages intuitive navigation and high content relevancy – two ingredients lacking in so many websites.

With the “Page Experience” update, Google is marking the end of all those annoying, unnecessary website traits (often intentional) which exasperate the user.

‘It’s time to be more user-friendly than ever before.’
There’s no time like the present. Try to look at your website as a customer and ask yourself 5 simple questions.

1. Is it quick?
2. Is the page layout predictable?
3. Is the navigation intuitive?
4. Is it mobile friendly?
5. Does it have an obvious CTA?

If every answer is a resounding “YES”, there is a good chance your website’s organic rank will remain unaffected. In fact, it may even rise in rank as those above fall.

If load speed, layout or navigation are an issue, don’t worry, they are easy to fix. As is the mobile phone layout, in most cases.

CTA is the best measure of customer engagement and interactivity. Invite questions and it will go a long way to proving that your website is user friendly.

WHAT DOES YOUR TYPICAL CUSTOMER EAT FOR BREAKFAST?

For some business owners knowing the habits and specific behaviour patterns of their typical customer is key to success.

That knowledge enables them to refine their marketing strategy to such a degree, they experience extraordinary levels of engagement, resulting in consistently high conversion rates.

THE VERTICAL APPROACH
As the term suggests, Vertical Marketing is the straight up and down view of a potential audience - one with predictable patterns of behaviour or specific interests.

Conversely, a Horizontal Marketing approach assumes the audience is so diverse in behaviour and interests that virtually anyone might be a potential customer. Fine if you sell ice cream (we all like ice cream), not so fine if you sell beard balm.

DO THE RESEARCH
To get the most out of the straight up and down approach, it pays to put in the homework. Market research and questionnaires help to achieve a better understanding of audience behaviour and preferences.

Armed with even a small amount of survey feedback a campaign can be steered towards the right prospects through optimal advertising channels.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION
Google offers up the most relevant result for a search. Be descriptive with product specifications and pay particular attention to “industry lingo”.

LOCAL & TRADE PRESS
Local or trade, printed media is a valuable tool in Vertical Marketing. Whether the thing that makes an audience unique is its geographical location or its need for beard balm, there is a magazine that puts your service in front of them.

EMAIL CAMPAIGNS
A self-elect database is gold dust! It paves the way for some very sophisticated vertical marketing.

A NEW BUSINESS LANDSCAPE

Brexit Export Paperwork, the Road Map out of Lockdown, Rishi’s 2021 Budget, VAT tweaks, Corporation Tax hikes, Business Rates deferral, Furlough Scheme extensions and a High Street transformed beyond recognition… There has never been a more exciting time to launch a new venture!

The business landscape may have changed profoundly, but trade goes on. Green shoots and bold expansions are taking place right now and very soon consumers across the UK will find themselves under the seductive influence of snazzy marketing campaigns.

Business owners are accustomed to a “new normal” presenting itself every year. Employees change jobs, business legislation alters, new opportunities emerge (as do new competitors), old wells dry up and the latest trends give rise to new consumer appetites. We adapt and, hopefully, thrive in the new normal of any particular year.

If you are launching, expanding or investing in 2021 you deserve a genuine hats-off! All ventures come with a risk, but the odds can be shortened with good groundwork. Market research and a cohesive marketing strategy will help to identify and address your new audience. Strive for perfection and try to make your customers happy. Build a good reputation and hope that the numbers enable you to turn a profit.

Good luck in 2021, and if you need some snazzy marketing..
