40+ referrals, one slightly morbid mix-up, and £61,830 of business banked — not a bad haul for a Thursday morning before the kettle's even cooled down.

🏆 A huge congratulations to Anthony Ramsden ofAST Hampsons Solicitors Bury & Rochdale, crowned Member of the Month after passing an outstanding £11,200 in referrals through August. A brilliant effort, and thoroughly earned.

🎤 Best 45 Seconds went to Elliott Brown of Rochdale Golf Club, who was after an introduction to funeral directors for the venue's services. Only, in the heat of the moment, what actually came out was a request for an introduction to "people who have died." A niche market, admittedly, and a tricky one to follow up on — but full marks for ambition.

🎨 The 10-minute feature came from Jonathan Thorp of Painting, who talked us through his painting and decorating services — the interior and exterior work that takes a tired, dated room and turns it into something that genuinely lifts the whole place. Neat, tidy, and done properly.

Apologies for the radio silence over the last couple of weeks, we ran into a few technical gremlins behind the scenes.

☀️ While Jul & Aug saw the kids running riot at home & half the room disappearing off to sunnier climes, BNI Rochdale quietly kept the engine running. Across those two months we still passed £176,527 in business. Proof, if it were needed, that even when the room's running on a skeleton crew, the referrals don't stop flowing.

Dawn's the face of The Mailing Room here at BNI Rochdale, a nationwide supplier of franking machines, folders, and scales. But as post volumes have declined across the board, so has the idea that this is just a machine sale - Dawn and the team now look at how your whole operation runs, not just what's going through the postbox.

This week was Props Week - a chance for members to bring in something that captured what they do. What followed was a fascinating journey of enlightenment - most notably, that Dan Halliwell of The Mortgage Mill lives in Cinderella's palace (the only explanation for a front door key like that) and Richard Smylie of Ecocleanfm UK doesn't use the variety of 1980s coloured clothes just for giggles (they actually do different jobs).

💰 The one prop we needed but didn't have was a big bag of cash to represent the £10K+ passed in business this week.

☣️ Best 45 Seconds went to Ashley Dixon of Safe Asbestos Removal Ltd who rocked up dressed like the sole survivor of a post-apocalyptic film. On balance, we're just relieved his dedication to the role stopped short of bringing along some actual asbestos!

✉️ Dawn Hamilton-Fishwick of The Mailing Room took the feature slot to sing the praises of the humble franking machine which, as it happens, quietly saves businesses a tidy sum on postage and spares you the soul-destroying queue at the post office. Not the flashiest prop of the morning, but one that certainly pays for itself many times over.

Some Fridays you get a takeaway and spend the evening arguing over what to put on the telly. Here's a chance for one that isn't.

A comedy hypnosis show, which means there's bound to be a laugh at somebody's expense — possibly the person sat next to you. Then an internationally recognised Elvis tribute, which is about as close to the real thing as you're ever likely to get.

Dinner, a table full of people you actually like, and the kind of night that gets brought up for years afterwards.

Everything else is on the poster. All you need to work out is who's coming and how big a table you need.

It felt like we'd slipped into a parallel dimension last week. Holiday season is in full swing, and with a good chunk of members off topping up their tans somewhere, the room was filled with a fine crop of substitutes stepping in to keep things ticking. And keep things ticking they did — £18.7k in business passed regardless 🙌🏼

🔥 The Best 45 Seconds award went to Richard Harris of Target Fire Protection Ltd — who, fittingly, absolutely smoked the competition for the second time in three weeks!

🧶 Steve Griffin of The Carpet and Flooring Depot Rochdale delivered the feature presentation. Chris Sharpe's phone can go off at 3am because a moth's had a wander past a sensor. Cameras, alarms, ladders in the rain, TICC Solutions deal with more drama before breakfast than most of us manage in a week.

So we asked him: what's worse - that, or a Thursday morning networking?

You already know the answer. Whatever job's currently stressing you out is very likely worse than a room full of people having a coffee, a chat, a laugh and wanting to pass each other business.
