Ashura marks the death anniversary of Hussain ibn Ali, a 7th century revolutionary leader who was killed in The Battle of Karbala. The Day of Ashura is recognised by millions across the world to remember Hussain’s dignified stand for social justice.
On the day of Ashura, Imam Hussain rode his horse to a small mount, he then called out loudly: “Is there anyone to help me? Is there anyone to help the grandson of the Holy Prophet?”
No one answered Hussain’s last call. But he heard the sound of crying coming from his camp. “Zainab, your brother is still alive. Why are you crying?” She said: “My brother Hussain, when you called out, “Is there anyone to help me?”, Ali Asghar fell from his cradle.”
Imam Hussain’s fatherly instincts allowed him to ask the enemy for water in order to save the life of this little infant. At that moment Imam Hussain, in agony, gloom, and distress raised the baby in his hands and was talking to the enemy when Hurmullah shot an arrow.
An arrow with three sharp heads flew across the desert of Karbala. It was heading for Ali Asghar. The arrow went through Imam Hussain’s arm and lodged in the tiny neck of Ali Asghar.
Seven times, Imam Hussain went forward towards the tents and then turned back, Saying: Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaih Raja’oon! We are from Allah and to Him we will return!
