This week Iāve been thinking about trust.
Not just in business⦠but in general.
With everything going on at the moment ā elections coming up, opinions everywhere, headlines, social media, AI, all of it ā I donāt think Iāve ever known a time where people are so vocal about what they believe⦠and yet so unsure about whatās actually true.
And I saw it play out in a really simple way this week in my own business.
A client emailed me. I replied⦠but it went to the wrong person in my contacts with the same name.
So as far as I was concerned, Iād done my bit.
When I didnāt hear back, I assumed heād just decided not to go ahead. You know how it is ā people get busy, change their minds⦠I didnāt question it.
Then he came back to me and said, āWhatās the point in your marketing if you donāt get back to people?ā
Honestly⦠I was mortified.
Because he thought one thing.
I thought something completely different.
Same situation. Two completely different beliefs.
And it made me realise how often that probably happens.
Not just in business⦠but everywhere.
We make assumptions.
We fill in the gaps.
We decide whatās true without always checking.
I work with people from all walks of life ā different backgrounds, different beliefs, different opinions ā and yet thereās no conflict.
Because when it comes down to it, the things that actually matter are simple:
Being honest
Doing what you say youāre going to do
Treating people properly
We might not be able to control everything going on out there.
But we can control how we show up.
And in a world where trust feels a bit⦠shaky at times, that probably matters more than ever.
If you like these slightly deeper (and occasionally chaotic) thoughts, I share them in my emails every week.
