News just in that long time Nutrabaits angler and all round good guy Derek Pye has broke his long standing Yorkshire personal best. We’ll let Derek take it from here.
After a couple of blank sessions on Osprey, the rising temperatures enticed me back this week in the hopes of adding to my carp total for the calendar year. Since the demise of the old closed season on stillwaters, I’ve recorded annual captures in my diaries from April through to the end of March. Despite having my best year ever, I wanted two more Osprey carp to achieve a silly personal target, but after seeming to be able ‘catch ‘em for fun’, sod’s law meant the takes had dried up.
A blank first night had me convinced it wouldn't happen, so on a whim, I moved peg for the last 24hrs. With all three rods out and the kettle just coming to the boil, the margin rod was away, producing one of the longest fights of any Osprey carp I can remember, but fortunately ending with this fabulous 39lb common in the net. A new pb UK common and Yorkshire pb carp, replacing a 38lb mirror from Tilery nearly 15 years ago.
Later in the afternoon, another take resurrected thoughts of hitting my target as I played it gingerly ever nearer the outstretched net. Then a swirl, a boil, and out popped the hook!
Carp fishing telling me to forget targets and just enjoy the fishing! That said I might squeeze another night in before month-end…..
