πŸ’™ Community News: Royston in Blue – A Sea of Blue Returns πŸ’™

Royston in Blue Family Fun Run returns on Sunday 28th June at 11am on Therfield Heath, bringing together around 1,000 runners and walkers for a 5K route in support of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Open to all ages and abilities, the event is a fantastic family-friendly morning - with the Heath transformed into a β€œsea of blue” as participants complete two laps in support of young people living with cancer.

Royston in Blue raises vital funds for Teenage Cancer Trust, helping provide specialist nurses, youth workers and dedicated hospital units for young people aged 13–24 across the UK.

πŸ’™ Entry is only available online and includes a Royston in Blue T-shirt

A huge thank you to this year’s sponsors, whose support helps make the event possible: Mantles GMG; Johnson Matthey, Abbot Travel, Trademark Kitchens, Tees Law, Wellington Wise, TTP, Hanson Diamond Drilling, Apex Reformer Pilates & Personal Training, The Listing and The Chalk Hare.

🌟 Out & About: Discover Royston’s Blue Plaques
This month, Ryan (on behalf of Royston Scaffolding) continues exploring Royston’s fascinating blue plaques. For June, we have focused on the Melbourn Street, Royston:

βœ” The Banyers Hotel (now The Chalk Hare)
18th Century Home of Rev. Edward Banyer, vicar of Royston 1739-1752

βœ” Royston Cave
Marked by the grille in the pavement below

βœ” Royston Town Hall
Erected 1855 as the Royston Institute on the site of a turnpike toll-house

βœ” Stadtepartnerschaft
Commemorating the town twinning between Royston and Grossalmerode 1974-2014

With thanks to Ryan’s research.

πŸ“Œ How many of these historic spots have you noticed around town?
πŸ“Œ More details can be found in F John Smith’s book The Blue Plaques of Royston, available from Royston Library
