This app sounds like a good idea for anyone, young or old , who wants to stay safe in the city centre.

Stay safe and have a great Christmas. πŸŽ„

Nobody wants to feel vulnerable and nobody should.

I mainly feel invincible and that is cool AF.

I run alone. I run in the dark. I have rarely felt vulnerable or unsafe.

I feel passionately that women shouldn’t feel uncomfortable or afraid to go out alone. I know that statistically my teenage boys are more likely to be killed by a stranger than I am and that I’m more likely to die of obesity from not exercising than I am of attack by a stranger.

After last weeks post about my feeling that I may have been the target of a scam in Manchester City centre whilst trying to get a taxi after a night out, a nice woman called Janice contacted me.

She explained that she is involved with the Manchester City Security Council and that she knows the people who work on the Women’s Safety Charter for the city centre.Janice said that she would pass on my post to people who would look into it

Janice really wanted to let me know about a new free app called Walksafe.

It’s free from AppStore.

The app is mainly (but not exclusively) for women and tells people the best way to walk around the city centre. It suggests the the safest and busiest route. WALKSAFE tells you where safe places are - hotels/bars: restaurants etc where people can go if they feel vulnerable, unsafe or need to charge their phone. The app directs women to the city angels who can help them get taxis, stay with them until they arrive or walk with them to the station.

Through the app people can also report things such as harassment or s**t like I experienced.

Anything reported gets fed back to the people in the council who work on the women’s safety charter and all information is taken very seriously and looked into.

The app is available in city centres thoughout the UK.

Please download the app and share with other women.
