👏 🍔 15kg of beef mince every month. That’s over 2,000 meals a year…..

A huge thank you to local businessman Danny Stamp from The Smoking Goat who didn’t hesitate when he heard there was something he could help The Forge with.

Danny is now going to donate 15kg of beef mince every month, delivered directly to The Forge. Across the year, that will help us make more than 2,000 meals for the people who use our service.

Mince is one of those ingredients we can do so much with. Lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, cottage pie, chilli and plenty more, so knowing we now have 15kg coming in every month is a massive help to our kitchen.

Danny came in today to meet the team, have a look around The Forge and see for himself what happens here. Meeting some of our service users and seeing the support being provided clearly had an impact on him, because he’s already speaking to another local business about something else we need.

We’ll hopefully have more to share on that soon.

Danny was introduced to us through Atrium Network Scunthorpe, who have been helping The Forge build relationships with local businesses, and this is exactly why those relationships matter.

We’d love to get more local businesses involved in this way. It doesn’t have to be beef mince and it doesn’t have to be a huge financial commitment. There are things we regularly need throughout the year, and having businesses take care of even one of those needs can make a real difference to what we’re able to provide.

Atrium also have their next Open Guest Evening at Scunthorpe United FC on Thursday 24th September at 5:30pm, where local businesses can come along, meet the members and find out more about the network and the community work they’re supporting.

💙 New 24/7 urgent mental health support opening in Scunthorpe

This is an important new service for our area and we want to make sure as many local people as possible know it’s there and how to access it.

The Acorn Centre opens at midday on Wednesday 30th September and will provide urgent mental health support for adults aged 18 and over, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There’s no need to wonder where to start or who to speak to. You can walk in and ask for support.

If you’re struggling with your mental health and need support, the centre will offer quick mental health assessments by NHS professionals, emotional support and advice, onward care and peer support from people with lived experience.

The service brings NHS mental health professionals and peer support workers together in a calm, welcoming environment where people can get help when they need it.

The Acorn Centre has been developed by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, working with North Lincolnshire Mind and the People Focus Group.

Simon is a credit to the town and a great guy, well done Ashby Funeral Care 👏

👞 A visit that could help in more ways than one

Last Friday, we welcomed Simon from Ashby Funeral Care to The Forge Project. He spent a couple of hours with us, getting to know more about what we do, the people who come through our doors and some of the challenges they face.

It was a really useful visit for us too, particularly hearing about the help Simon can offer when someone has lost a loved one and is worried about how they are going to afford the funeral.

There are far more sources of financial help available than many people realise. Simon knows where to look and has helped families access support through government schemes, Armed Forces charities and many other sources of funding. In fact, there are around 60 different places he can potentially explore depending on someone’s circumstances.

For people already struggling financially, knowing there is someone local who can help them understand what support might be available and point them in the right direction could make a huge difference.

Something else came from Simon’s visit that we think could really help the people we support.

In certain circumstances, footwear cannot remain with someone for cremation. If a family doesn’t want the shoes returned, Ashby Funeral Care will now give them the option of donating suitable footwear to The Forge.

Good shoes and trainers are always useful here, and for someone experiencing homelessness or hardship, a decent pair can make a real difference.

Of course, nothing would ever be donated without the family’s knowledge and agreement. Where a family does choose to donate them, those shoes can go on to help somebody else in our community rather than going to waste.

A big thank you to Simon and everyone at Ashby Funeral Care for taking the time to come and see us and, more importantly, looking at practical ways we can work together to help people in Scunthorpe.

Great cause, well done The Forge Project 👏

🌙 Join us for The Big Sleep Out 2026

On Saturday 10 October, World Homeless Day, we’ll be swapping our beds for sleeping bags and spending the night outdoors at Brigg Town Football Club CIC to raise awareness and funds for The Forge Project.

From 9pm until 7am the following morning, we’ll be sleeping outside with just our sleeping bags, giving up the comfort of our own beds for one night while raising money to support people in our community who are homeless or going through difficult circumstances.

The Big Sleep Out isn’t intended to replicate the reality of homelessness. Spending one night outside in a safe environment could never do that. It is, however, a chance to stop and think about what life can be like for people who don’t have a safe place to call home, while raising money for the support available to them here in our local area.

We’re hoping to raise £1,000 for The Forge Project, and we’d love to see as many people as possible get involved.

The Sleep Out runs from 9pm on Saturday 10 October until 7am on Sunday 11 October at Brigg Town Football Club. You’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag, food and drinks. Toilets will be available, but tents are not permitted.

Families are welcome to take part, with children remaining the responsibility of their accompanying adult. Please register with The Forge Project before the event.

If you can’t join us on the night but would still like to support us, you can donate towards our £1,000 target, with the money raised helping The Forge continue supporting people who need us.
