Are we letting AI do a bit too much of our thinking these days? 🤔 Let's be honest, I still hide my hands under the desk so I can count on my fingers to work out 7 plus 5, so the temptation to let a computer do the heavy lifting is incredibly real!
Humans have always offloaded thinking; that's exactly why we write shopping lists and dodge mental maths. But there is a fine line between using a handy tool and letting AI become our default thinker.
Our brains are a bit cheeky; they use about 20% of our body's energy despite making up only about 2% of our weight, so we are biologically hardwired to conserve effort. It is incredibly tempting to just let ChatGPT write that awkward email or summarise a chunky article. The catch? Our skills improve when we use them, and go down the pan when we don't.
MIT researchers even found that people who used AI for writing tasks had lower neural engagement and weaker memory recall. A whopping 83.3% of AI-assisted participants couldn't even correctly quote an essay they had just written!
Swipe through this self-aware guide on using AI to see how to keep your brain in the driver's seat. The goal is to let AI amplify your intelligence, not replace it entirely.
