Statement from Seaford Town Football Club!
Why We’re Protesting
Seaford Town Football Club is holding a peaceful protest at 6 pm ahead of the Seaford Town Council meeting today, Thursday, 23 October, at The View, Southdown Road.
We’re doing this because the Council’s Working Group has made recommendations about our future without any consultation with the club.
These proposals, if approved, would cause serious damage to our financial stability and threaten the future of a community organisation that has served Seaford for more than a century.
Our message is simple: we need support, not punishment.
Why We’re Concerned
Perception of bias and conflict of interest: We are deeply concerned that a councillor involved in the Working Group is also connected to the residents’ group, Crouch Concerns, which has campaigned against the club’s activities. This creates a perception of bias and undermines public confidence in the fairness of the process.
No consultation: Despite repeated requests and the broken promise of a meeting, the Club was not invited to discuss STC’s recommendations or explain how they would affect us.
Loss of vital income: The proposal to remove advertising boards would wipe out around £18,000 a year—money we rely on to fund youth teams, maintain facilities, and support more than 600 players across all age groups.
Unworkable demands: The suggestion that volunteers must remove and reinstall advertising boards after every match is completely impractical. We don’t have the volunteer resources, and we risk losing sponsors who help keep grassroots football alive.
Unnecessary new costs: Installing intercom systems on Crouch gates would divert precious funds away from coaching, equipment, and community programmes. And it is hugely impractical as we already have a working entry system in place.
Ignored partnership values: Seaford Town Council’s own Mission Statement is *“Working with our community to secure Seaford’s best future.” Yet we’ve been excluded from decisions that directly affect our future.
What STFC Means to Seaford
