I see this so much.

People talking about things because other people are talking about them so they think it will get them “seen”.

People talking about things because it’s a trend, aka AI, personal branding or burnout, just because they know it will get reach.

People think they believe something because they’ve consumed so much they don’t even know why they believe.

My best advice to actually understand what you care about,

- stop consuming for a few days, note what sticks in your head
- get a journal, it’s really helped me to structure my thoughts and what matters to me
- every morning don’t open your phone for 20 minutes, let your brain think for itself and try to notice what you’re thinking about
- take some times to sit and understand what you value in life, is it time, is it human connection, is it financial - this is super important for understanding what you care about
- if someone says something you don’t agree with, write it down because that will give you a lot of insight into what you care about
- stop using AI for a week, think on your own. Yes this takes longer but it allows you to reset your own thinking.?

Pen and paper write things down is the best way to start understanding your own thoughts.

Or voice note yourself, send yourself texts anything you can do that will help you retain your own knowledge.

It’s super important in business or in content or personal branding that you know your own value and understand what you care about.

Take the time to understand yourself and then create

If one more person tells you to “add value” to your content I need you to respectfully ignore them xox

I spent so long trying to answer “How do I make people buy this?”

But that was the completely wrong question to be asking

People don’t buy the product, they buy outcomes.

Instead of asking: What do I sell?
Think about: What does this make possible?

For example:
Marketing - Growth
Content - Attention
Personal Branding - Opportunities
Coaching - Clarity
Fitness - Confidence
Accounting - Peace of mind

The deeper you go, the easier it is to create content.

You’re no longer selling the desk, you’re selling the life that happens around the desk.

Fill in the blanks.

My audience doesn’t want ______.
They want ______.

My audience doesn’t want a website.
They want credibility.

My audience doesn’t want content.
They want visibility.

My audience doesn’t want personal branding.
They want to be known.

Most people fall into the trap of talking about the product, be the one that talks about what the product makes possible.

Save this for the next time you’re stuck trying to figure out what your audience cares about.

Here’s how I use trends for me and my clients in personal branding:

1. Look for patterns, instead of copying formats

“Why is this trend working?”

Is it controversy?
Curiosity?
Nostalgia?
Relatability?

The format is rarely the thing driving attention.

1. Get there early or get there late

There are two windows where trends work.

Early: Before everyone in your industry has touched it.

Late: When everyone has forgotten about it and it feels fresh again.

The middle is where most people get stuck.

1. Translate the trend into your expertise

A personal trainer shouldn’t suddenly become a dance creator.

A consultant shouldn’t start lip-syncing.

Take the principle behind the trend and apply it to you.

The best creators are adapting trends.

1. Use trends to attract attention, not build authority

Attention gets people through the door, authority is what you need to make them stick around.

Your expertise is what gets them to follow, enquire, or buy.

1. Measure the right thing

Views don’t always mean impact.

Did profile visits increase?
Did enquiries increase?
Did people engage with the message?
Did the right people see it?

Attention without action is just entertainment.

A trend can get you seen. What you do after that determines whether it grows your business.

8 years ago, I decided I wanted to be an influencer.

So I got a degree in politics to avoid it.

I wanted to be seen online, but I was terrified of being seen online. Politics felt like a safe compromise.

I did get one photoshoot with my bestfriend, I posted once, felt sick because everyone was watching, deleted it.

That’s years I spent scared of a thing that turned out to be my favourite thing.

Ten years on, I create build personal brands for a living. With some of the most incredible people I’ve ever worked with.

The thing is I now spend my days helping other people be seen. The people sitting on something, certain the room will turn and judge them.

I get it.

The exact thing I deleted because I was scared of being judged is the thing I now help people do.

Nobody remembered the photo. They never do.

The difference between then and now was never the camera or the outfit. It was deciding I was allowed to be seen trying.
