Today, Scala has been in London supporting harmed and bereaved families from Leeds as they hand-delivered a letter, signed by six MPs, to the Prime Minister. The letter calls for Keir Starmer's direct intervention in the Inquiry into maternity and neonatal services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and for the appointment of Donna Ockenden as Chair.

Scala has long supported families impacted by maternity care failings, and we continue to be inspired by their vital campaigning to make maternity services safer.

Following today's CQC Report into Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Greg Almond, Partner at Rothera Bray Solicitors, who represents The Nottingham Attacks survivors, Wayne Birkett and Sharon Miller, has given a statement on their behalf.

The report identifies serious failures in mental health care relating to Valdo Calocane, who was under the Trust’s care at the time of the 2023 attacks.

In his statement, Greg highlights the continued lack of communication with surviving victims, after Wayne and Sharon were not informed of the report’s existence and only became aware of it when contacted by the media. He also sets out the significant changes required to address the systemic failings identified by the CQC, ahead of the public Inquiry due to begin in February.
