We are excited to share the news that a brand new Sheffield company, STEPS Inclusive Design, has now launched, with a mission to transform how assistive products are developed to balance clinical function with thoughtful design.

Co-founders Jules Shiel-Boulger and Toria Chan bring decades of experience in serious injury rehabilitation, and saw a gap: many assistive products are designed for clinical settings, not everyday life. Head of Design, Toby Chan, works closely with occupational therapists and physiotherapists to reimagine assistive products that provide stability, comfort and are suited to the home.

Scala is proud to be supporting STEPS Inclusive Design as they launch their services, working with them on copywriting, graphic design, management of website and socials, branding, PR and strategic advice.

Scala was delighted to deliver a PR training presentation to the medical negligence team at the law firm Tees yesterday, at the University of Cambridge.

We discussed the power of PR, how to identify newsworthy cases, and how to approach those initial conversations with clients. The presentation included examples of Scala’s work aimed at encouraging lawyers to think about their cases in a different way. Managing Director Natalie Rodgers and Senior PR Executive Rebecca Finley explained how Scala supports both clients and solicitors throughout the media process.

Thank you to Tees for inviting us. It’s always valuable to meet the teams we work with in-person, and to highlight the important role that PR plays for law firms, individual lawyers and clients.

Scala is proud to support bereaved and harmed maternity families from Nottingham as they come together for a press conference on 24 June 2026, following their gathering to hear the findings of Donna Ockenden's independent maternity review.

Having worked alongside many of these families for nearly a decade through the Nottingham maternity campaign, we recognise the significance of this moment and the courage it has taken to reach it.

Scala will coordinate media engagement on behalf of the families, who will share their responses to the report and reflect on its findings. The review details failures in maternity care in Nottingham dating back to 2012 and forms part of the largest maternity inquiry in NHS history.

Above all, this is a day for the families whose determination, persistence and advocacy have brought these issues into the public spotlight. We remain committed to ensuring that families' voices are heard and represented with dignity, accuracy, and respect.

Today, Scala has been in London supporting harmed and bereaved families from Leeds as they hand-delivered a letter, signed by six MPs, to the Prime Minister. The letter calls for Keir Starmer's direct intervention in the Inquiry into maternity and neonatal services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and for the appointment of Donna Ockenden as Chair.

Scala has long supported families impacted by maternity care failings, and we continue to be inspired by their vital campaigning to make maternity services safer.
