Today, anyone can ask AI to make an app in minutes. It might look good at first, but looks aren't everything. An app needs strong foundations, safe internal wiring and someone who knows how it all fits together.

If you let AI build everything from the ground up, nobody in your team will understand how it works. Which is a problem when things break. And things will break. You must ensure your team is building responsibly with AI. Yes it needs to write the code, but your engineers need to own and operate that code. I do not yet have full confidence that AI can take over the world because I'm still needed in many of the decisions that AI cannot make, or would make badly without context in the real world.

So I use AI like I would any other tool

It helps me work faster, which keeps development velocity up. But I still make every decision, check every line and test every feature myself. So when things do break down, I know exactly where the fault lies, what caused it and what needs to happen to fix it.

📬 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧!
Your website is just like a house. Your contact form is the front door. When someone fills it in, or makes a booking, or a purchase, a message is supposed to be delivered by your mail person, and land safely in your mailbox.

But sometimes it's the mail person or the mailbox itself that's the problem rather than the message. The item is too big to fit in. Or the mail person gets the wrong house, so the message is rejected.

I just found an issue on the Marthrown of Mabie website where emails kept disappearing. Nothing was wrong with the content or layout. The "mailbox" their website was using just wasn't trusted to deliver the mail anymore. The application passwords had completely stopped working.

The fix wasn't complicated once I found it, not to me anyway. Within 24h, I flipped away from Microsoft365 authentication (the mail person) which was failing (they were chucking the mail into the bush!) to one that's trusted, reliable, and completely free for a small business (up to 300 emails a day). All without needing to migrate the mailboxes, so they can still use Microsoft365 for email!!

Exciting news from Wincobank Chapel! 🎉

Microsoft just pulled the plug on our charitable Azure Cloud credits. Our website has gone from £0pcm to £16pcm overnight! So I'm going to rebuild a simple, easy-to-use website and room booking system (for free) that the trustees can use to help them organise their workload.

Whether you're a church member or someone from the community, you'll soon be able to browse our spaces, pick your date and time, and send us a booking request, all without picking up the phone.

We want our building to serve as many people as possible. And making it easier to access is the first step.

Can I ask for your honest opinion? 🙏

I've spent a long time writing a free ebook to help people build their own website, without needing any technical skills or a big budget.

But here's the thing. I'm a web developer. I've been doing this for 15 years. And sometimes the hardest part of sharing what you know is remembering what it felt like not to know it.

So before I shout about it too loudly, I'd love a few honest sets of eyes on it.

Specifically, I'm wondering:

👉 Does it actually feel useful to someone who isn't techy?
👉 Is the language clear and easy to follow, or does it slip into jargon?
👉 Is there anything missing that you'd want to know?
