Based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, I’ve been working professionally as a web designer for over 9 years. Having launched my first client’s site back in 2016. Hot take: AI is not going to take a designer’s job. A designer using AI is.

And I’m not afraid to showcase we’re using AI.

We just put it to work on a real app launch. Noura, a nutrition / fitness app by Adam Hoad.

What we did by hand: the logo, the brand and every social carousel design. Adam brings the words, we bring the design. Taste and identity don’t come from a prompt.

Introducing new website.

This is a 20 year old refractory contractor serving steel plants, cement works, and heavy industry across the UK.

Two decades of reputation. And almost none of it showing up online.

Their previous website wasn’t working. Local SEO was non existent. So when potential clients searched for refractory services, JIC weren’t the ones being found.

Their competitors were. That’s not a small problem.

That’s leads walking straight out the door every single day.

So we rebuilt everything. Custom designed. Custom developed. Every page of content written using AI-accelerated workflows, all in the client’s tone and voice.

Not generic copy. Not corporate filler. Words that actually sound like JIC because they were built to. Then we optimised the full site for local SEO so they finally get found by the people searching for exactly what they do.

We also took over the hosting, emails, SSL, and security from a previous provider who was charging over the odds and doing nothing with it. We see this far too often. Companies paying good money to a host who keeps the lights on and calls it a service. Sorted that too.

Honestly, I’m done being polite about these “vibe coders”. People prompting their way to a glorified PDF and calling it a website.

15 years doing this. 10 running my own agency. And the stuff going live right now is genuinely embarrassing to watch. It goes against everything I stand for.

The encryption - non existent.
The server - rented.
Hackable - more than likely.
Brand alignment - f**k all.

The list goes on. And every bit of it traces back to one prompt: “make it pop”.

This is someone’s business. Their livelihood. The first thing a customer sees.

And it’s been knocked out by a person who can’t read a line of the code it runs on, can’t fix it when it breaks, and never checked it in the first place.

I’m far from anti AI. I f**king love it. We use it every single day. The difference is who’s holding it. In the right hands it’s a rocket. In the wrong ones it’s a liability with a nice font.

The tools got cheap. The judgement didn’t.

And here’s the part that should worry you. It’s not them who pays for the corners they cut. It’s you. They got paid and moved on. You’re left with a website that quietly loses you customers for as long as it’s live, and you’ll never even know which ones.

Holidays have always been nightmares for me, the anxiety.. everything. Could never switch off.

Just because we CAN click a button and build a website, doesn’t mean we SHOULD.

These AI bros promising you a £10k website in 30 seconds with one prompt are the same lot who were flogging courses on replacing your whole sales team with bots two weeks ago.

Same blokes. Different bandwagon. They’re not selling websites, they’re selling dreams.

Here’s the bit they skip over. Yes, you can build a website in minutes with AI now. Anyone can. Getting a website to exist is no longer the hard part.

I’ve been custom-coding WordPress sites for 10 years and using Claude Code across every part of my work for months. I know exactly what these tools can and can’t do. And I’ll tell you this for free. It does not take 10 minutes to build something that looks good, works properly, and actually brings in leads.

What looks easy in their 30-second reel is 10 years of knowing what to type. They’ve just cut out the bit where the work happens.

The hard bit is knowing what it should say. Who it’s saying it to. What your homepage needs to do when someone lands on it at 9pm on a Tuesday, weighing you up against two other quotes. What makes them pick up the phone instead of clicking back to Google. That bit can’t be prompted. Not by them. Not by anyone.

A website that exists is easy now. A website that actually brings you clients is the whole job.
