🎉 Lighthouse Soft Play is officially open!
Today we were delighted to celebrate the official opening of the extended Lighthouse Soft Play.
Many families have already been enjoying the new space since January, but today we made it official, with ribbons, drinks, cake, and plenty of happy noise!
The journey began back in 2023, when it became clear that the original Soft Play space was no longer big enough for the growing number of children and families using it. Plans were drawn up, permission was granted, and then began the challenge of raising the funds needed to make it happen.
What started as a project estimated at around £70,000 eventually became a full project cost of nearly £150,000, covering planning, architects, structural engineering, building work and fitting out. Thanks to the generosity of so many people and organisations, every penny was raised, with no loans to repay.
That is one of the reasons we are so pleased to continue offering Lighthouse Soft Play free for the local community.
A heartfelt thank you to all those who supported the fundraising, including:
Poors & Ploughlets
Benefact Trust
Beatrice Laing Trust
Family Hub Community Grant
Geoffrey Watling Trust
Norfolk Community Foundation
Tesco Stronger Starts
Bernard Sunley Trust
Cinderella Panto Group
Members of Lighthouse Community Church and the local community, near and far
We also want to say a huge thank you to the Soft Play Extension Team here at Lighthouse, who gave so much time and care to the details of the project, from planning and colours to painting and practical decisions along the way.
Thank you too to our architects, Chaplin Farrant, who managed the build, and to Ovamills, who constructed the extension during autumn 2025. Both companies were thoughtful, professional, generous and a real pleasure to work with. A special thank you also goes to Luke, who calmly managed the on-site work and helped keep everything moving.
We are so grateful for everyone who has helped make this possible.
The result is a larger, lighter and more welcoming play space, with more seating, a beautiful curved window, new play equipment, extra climbing pods, and a sensory play area.
Together with Threadbear, our children’s pre-loved clothes and toys shop, and the Lighthouse Café, the extended Soft Play is part of our heart to serve local families and provide a warm, welcoming community space here in Sheringham.
Thank you again to everyone who has contributed, supported, given, planned, built, painted, prayed and helped bring this project to life.
“Let the little children come to me.”
