Ikebana 1.

Ikebena is the Japanese art of flower arranging translated as ‘Making flowers come alive’. Which strikes me as odd as it involves the cutting of the flowers in the first place. So it occurred to me why not leave the flowers in the garden to enjoy the sunshine and be enjoyed? Instead they can still brighten the house by being photographed and arranged (with a little imagination) digitally. That way they can live for ever. Venn I find myself in times of trouble ...

The Beatles lyrics as an inspirational Venn diagram poster. A Venn diagram is an design treatment that uses overlapping elements (in this case plectrums) to indicate the logical relation between concepts or data.

There was a clink of inkwells and the scratch of quill pens deep into the night in the Shipston Scriptorium in order to complete the final poster in our ‘Art of Darkness’ series. This one is REBORN: Reincarnation, also known as rebirth or transmigration, is the philosophical or religious concept that the non-physical essence of a living being begins a new life in a different physical form or body after biological death.

Our passion project for this spring is ‘Art of Darkness’ which is a series of images that explore the themes of mystery, spirituality, the occult and general weirdness using elements of arcane cosmic symbolism and sacred geometry in a neo-psychedelic style. They could be vintage or could be timeless but definitely inspired by the work of the incredible Jordy Garcia. We’re starting off with Area 51, the centre of spacey strangeadelic happenings in the USA (outside of Mar-a-Lago) since the 1950s.

A lone blue-collar worker ringing his girlfriend from a telephone pole in the middle of America’s bleak and empty Midwest would not appear to be the material for arguably the greatest song of the decade but that did prove to be the case. Jimmy Webb’s wonderfully evocative masterpiece was given the gold standard treatment by the Rhinestone Cowboy himself, Glen Campbell, without Jimmy being told. According to Jimmy he rang the label the day after his presentation expecting to be told the song had been rejected and was informed it was already in the can. It had been recorded the previous night. The rest is history.
