Am I an influencer? No. Do I think I am? Also no. I’m building this account from the ground up — publicly, organically and with all the experiments, carousels, questionable Reels and algorithm-induced breakdowns that come with it.

Meanwhile, the real portfolio? Growing. The businesses I work with and the results we create.

So yes, the follower count is small.

And why put myself through it?

“𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲” 🫠

One last ‘5 in 5’ before it becomes 5 in 6…

Although, given that every edition has contained six points, apparently nobody should be trusting me with the maths.

Welcome to 5 in 5: The Holiday Edition. ✈️

One of the things I worried about when starting CoffeyClub | Social Media Marketing was whether adding a social media marketing business alongside a full-time career would mean sacrificing more of the thing I was trying to create:

Time.

Five months in, I’m learning that it doesn’t have to…

Freelancing has given me freedom. Not the Instagram version where you open a laptop next to a swimming pool and pretend you’re running an empire for 14 minutes… (maybe a little bit) 🤏

Actual flexibility.

I can manage my workload. Plan ahead. Look after my clients. And, provided there’s Wi-Fi or enough signal to hotspot, work from pretty much anywhere when I need to.

But I’ve also learnt that sometimes the laptop should stay closed. The phone should remain off [at least silent].

Go on holiday. Spend time with family. Eat too many olives. Drink the cocktail. Take the photos because you want the memories — not because you need B-roll.

And yes, I’ll probably turn some of it into content afterwards. I am right now… 😂 There’s a healthy balance to be found.

Because ultimately, CoffeyClub has always been about ‘giving people time to manage what matters most.’

It’s probably worth remembering that applies to me too. And for me, what matters most will always start with family. ❤️

Five months down. Three editions down.

Next stop: 5 in 6.

…unless I finally accept that this series is actually called 6 in 6. 🤷‍♂️

Because there’s another number hiding behind it:

📈 Impressions: +4%
💬 Engagements: +496%

These are the results from my personal LinkedIn account over the last 365 days — and they demonstrate something I bang on about A LOT at CoffeyClub | Social Media Marketing.

More views/reach isn’t always the answer.
Better content is.

No overnight virality. No algorithm “hack” (though, I try my best). No jumping on every trend because somebody on TikTok told us to…

Just learning what makes an audience stop, care and engage — and doing more of it.

That’s the kind of social media marketing growth we’re interested in building for small businesses.

𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁, 𝟱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟱 (𝗼𝗿 𝟲) 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀… ☕️

So, here we are. 5 in 5: Part Two.

And I think this batch sums up the reality of building something alongside a full-time career pretty well… 👀👀👀

I can’t be everywhere, doing everything, at platinum standard — nor should I be. My clients come first.

I’ve learnt just how much the smallest bit of support can mean to a small business.

I’ve learnt that people connect with *people* far more than logos and polished assets.

I’ve questioned myself more than once.

I’ve also had ideas for social posts while walking the dogs, at the gym, doing chores and, yes, sitting on the loo.

But perhaps most importantly…

I’ve learnt that being your own boss is fun as F**K! 😂

Making the rules. Trying things. Getting some of them wrong. Seeing others actually work. Meeting brilliant people. Helping businesses grow.

And occasionally stopping long enough to appreciate that this little thing didn’t exist until I decided to create it.

Still learning. Still building. Still enjoying the ride.

5 months down. Plenty more lessons to come.

𝟱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀. 𝟱 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀.

And apparently 6 points… because I can’t follow my own brief. ☕️😂 (rule breaker is a trend, right?)

CoffeyClub | Social Media Marketing has officially been doing its thing for five months — and while I spend plenty of time helping other businesses navigate social media, I’m learning a fair bit myself along the way…

Some about marketing. More about running a business. Most importantly, knowing when to switch off.

And, unfortunately, one about accepting that my wife might be better at social media than me.*

The takeaways so far?

☕️ Scroll for inspiration, not comparison.
☕️ Don’t let the numbers define you.
☕️ Stop chasing perfect.
☕️ Be unapologetically yourself.
☕️ Know when to say no.

For me, CoffeyClub was created to **give businesses time to manage what matters most** — and five months in, I’m realising I need to follow that advice too.
