Let's talk about getting paid.

Because somewhere along the way, the equestrian world decided that riders accepting money from brands was something to side-eye - and honestly, that needs to stop.

If a brand is using your face, your content, your audience, and your credibility to sell their products, that is a business transaction. Not a favour. Not a gift. A transaction.

The fact that you love the brand doesn't change that. If anything, it makes you MORE valuable - because authentic advocacy is exactly what brands are paying for in every other industry.

The equestrian world is miles behind when it comes to paid deals. Riders are still accepting product-only arrangements for work that would command real fees in any other sport. And the culture of "be grateful for the free stuff" is keeping it that way.

Here's what I want you to know:

✅ Loving a brand and being paid by them are not mutually exclusive
✅ Your time, your content, your reach - all of it has value
✅ Asking to be paid doesn't make you greedy. It makes you professional.

The riders who are building sustainable careers aren't the ones working for free and hoping loyalty pays off eventually. They're the ones who understand that sponsorship is a professional exchange - and they're negotiating accordingly.

You put in the work. You deserve to be paid for it.

The difference between sponsored content that flops and sponsored content that converts:

Flop: 'So excited to partner with [Brand]! Use my code for 10% off!'

Convert: 'Here's why I use [Brand]...'

See the difference?

One is an announcement. The other is a story.

Brands don't pay you to make announcements. They pay you to create content that makes their audience feel something and take action.

That means:
→ Show the product in real use, not staged photos
→ Share actual results or experiences
→ Explain the 'why' behind your choice
→ Make it about the viewer's problem, not your partnership

Authentic sponsored content doesn't feel like an ad. It feels like a recommendation from someone who genuinely uses and loves the thing.

Because that's exactly what it should be.

What's the best sponsored post you've ever seen? What made it work?

Ask yourself this:

If a brand scrolled your last 9 posts right now, would they understand:

→ What you do?
→ Who you help or inspire?
→ What you stand for?
→ Why their audience would care about you?

If the answer is no, you don't have a follower problem. You have a clarity problem.

Your content should tell a story even when you're not there to explain it.

It should show brands exactly who you are, what you offer, and why you're worth partnering with.

This doesn't mean every post needs to be a sales pitch. It means your overall presence should paint a clear picture.

Go look at your last 9 posts. What story are they telling?

Real talk: you don't need 10K followers to land your first sponsorship.

I've seen it happen with 500. With 800. With 1,200.

What those riders had:
→ A clear niche
→ An engaged audience (even if small)
→ Professional communication
→ Content that actually showcased the product

What they didn't have:
→ Perfect feed aesthetics
→ Viral posts
→ Blue tick verification
→ Competition wins

Brands care about ROI. If your 800 followers are the exact people they want to reach, and those people trust your recommendations? That's more valuable than 10K random followers who scroll past.

Sponsorship is for everyone - amateurs and professionals alike - as long as you put the work in.

Stop waiting for 'enough' followers. Start building real relationships with the ones you have.

What's your current follower count? (No judgment, just curious)

The moment everything changed for me:

I stopped asking 'How do I get sponsored?' and started asking 'Why would a brand choose me?'

That question forced me to think like a business owner, not a hopeful rider.

It made me look at my content differently. My engagement differently. My whole approach differently.

Because here's the thing - brands aren't doing you a favour. You're entering a mutual exchange.

They need visibility. You need support. When both sides win, that's a real partnership.

But you have to show up like a partner, not a fan hoping for free stuff.

That means:
→ Professional communication
→ Clear value proposition
→ Consistent delivery
→ Treating it like the business relationship it is

Amateur riders wait to be chosen. Professional riders make it easy to choose them.

What mindset shift do you need to make?

We're very excited to announce that Corvedale Education are now supported by TOG24

Nick and Mark have been using TOG24 kit on the yard for many years now, and the quality is truly outstanding and also great value.

We're excited to bring this brand into the light in the equestrian sphere - we really can't recommend them enough.

Thank you TOG24 for your support - we can't wait to see what this relationship brings.

Controversial take: your content might be too polished.

You're planning every post. Perfecting every angle. Waiting for the right light, the right moment, the right everything.

Meanwhile, brands are partnering with riders who just... show up.

Document, don't create.

The warm-up where your horse was spicy? Content.
The product you actually use every day? Content.
The mistake you made and how you fixed it? Content.

Brands don't want perfection. They want proof that real riders use their stuff in real situations.

Authenticity beats aesthetics every single time.

So stop waiting for perfect. Start showing up as you are.

What's one 'imperfect' moment from this week you could share?

Riders think brands want:
→ Perfect riding
→ Competition wins
→ Huge follower counts

Here's what brands actually want:
→ Consistent visibility
→ Engaged audience (not just big)
→ Professional communication
→ Content that sells without being salesy

I've watched amateur riders with 800 followers land partnerships while professionals with 10K get ghosted.

The difference? The amateur understood the assignment.

They showed up consistently. They created content that made the product look good. They communicated like a business partner, not a fan.

Sponsorship isn't about you. It's about what you can do for them.

Once you shift that mindset, everything changes.

Which of these surprised you most?

You don't need more time to build a sponsorship-worthy presence. You need a better system.

Here's what 30 minutes a day actually looks like:

10 minutes: Document your ride
Film 3-5 clips. Your warm-up. A training moment. Your cool-down routine. Raw, real, useful.

10 minutes: Engage authentically
Comment on 10 posts from brands you want to work with. Not generic heart emojis - actual thoughts. Show you understand their audience.

10 minutes: Create one piece of content
One post. One story. One caption that teaches something you learned this week.

That's it. No fancy equipment. No content calendar chaos. Just consistent, professional visibility.

Professionalism is about systems, not suffering.

What's stopping you from committing to 30 minutes?

Here's the truth: your pitch isn't getting ignored because you're not good enough.

It's getting ignored because you made the brand do maths.

You told them about your passion, your journey, your goals. But you didn't tell them what they actually need to know:

→ Who sees your content
→ What action those people take
→ How that connects to their product

Brands don't invest in potential. They invest in clarity.

Amateur riders wait to be chosen. Professional riders make it easy to choose them.

So before you send another pitch: stop talking about why YOU want the partnership. Start showing them why THEY should want it.

What's the one thing you wish brands understood about working with you?
