E-E-A-T. Sometimes referred to as E-A-T.
Something we all need to do! 🍽
Whether EEAT is an actual ranking factor is up for debate, however Google do referenece it in their Search Quality Rater Guidelines - a document used by third-party contractors who assist Google in their evalutions on websites appearing in search results.
EEAT isn't exactly tangible, like Backlinks, and Google's algorithm can't directly understand the human concepts of being experienced, authorative or trustworthy.
However, Google's Quality Raters give feedback to Google about results and whether the ones showing are of high Page Quality - of which they take into consideration EEAT.
Let's take a quick look at what the guidelines say about each one to give you an idea of how to apply this to your website.
Experience : Consider the extent to which the content creator has the necessary first-hand or life experience for the topic. Many types of pages are trustworthy and achieve their purpose well when created by people with a wealth of personal experience.
Expertise : Consider the extent to which the content creator has the necessary knowledge or skill for the topic. Different topics require different levels and types of expertise to be trustworthy.
Authoritativeness: Consider the extent to which the content creator or the website is known as a go-to source for the topic.
All three of these come together to build a higher level of trust from the user.
So, what do you need to do?
- Dish out high value and UNIQUE content whether that be blogs, video, social media etc (try all 3), and do so regularly.
- Touch on ALL subjects within your field.
If you're a fish tackle shop write about rods, the different baits that fish prefer, fishing seasons, and the fish you can expect to catch at different times of the year.
TIP: Create a big mind map of these topics - that's what we do!
- Educate people. Show people you know your stuff (An example is this very post!) 👩🏫
