I'm speaking at the Veterinary Marketing Association Summer Event on Thursday 17th September and it would be lovely to see some familiar faces there. I'm equal parts excited and honoured to have been asked, and a bit nervous too if I'm honest, it's been a while!
My session is called How to Make AI Your Best Friend Without Giving Your Audience the 'AI Ick'.
Most of us in animal health marketing are already using AI for content, ideas and the daily slog of admin. The harder part is knowing where to draw the line. We work in a sector with strict regulatory and clinical standards, and pet owners and vets can tell almost instantly when something has been churned out and doesn't ring true.
I'll talk through the common pitfalls that are easy to miss. Some are obvious once you spot them, like a compliance slip or getting a clinical detail wrong. Others creep up on you, like when everything you put out starts to sound the same as everyone else's and people slowly lose faith in your brand!
A big part of the session is something the tech industry tends to leave out of the conversation, which is what AI actually costs the planet. For example, generating one AI image can use about as much energy as fully charging your phone. Once you think about how many images and drafts you can run though, let alone what an entire team can in a week, it soon adds up.
I'm not there to make anyone feel guilty. I just think that for a sector that cares as much as ours does about animals and the natural world, we should know the impact of what we're using. π
There are four sessions across the day from, some brilliant voices, all with lots to teach us, lunch, and some networking time.
It's at Voco Oxford Thames, and tickets are capped, so best to book sooner rather than later!
