When the clock strikes 12…

As the chimes of Big Ben ring out across London on New Year’s Eve, spare a minute, if you will, to picture yourself standing inside the tower, on the other side of the clock. You are surrounded by cogs and pendulums beneath the incredible bell itself, at the top of a spiral staircase, fireworks in the sky outside lighting up the room through the glass clockface.

You might want to get away from the deafening noise, so imagine moving down the spiral staircase to the bottom of The Elizabeth Tower, push open a carved wooden door and move into the ornate corridors of the Houses of Parliament. Cold tiles under foot, where so many politicians have paced over almost 1000 years.

In the darkness, find your way to the small gift shop. Here you will find the official new guide books for Big Ben and The Palace of Westminster which I designed! Find out more below.

Wishing you all a wonderful new year and unlimited happiness in 2023 from Goldust Design. Briony ###

Fearne Cotton's new book 'Speak Your Truth', is published today, and I was thrilled to do the book design for this during lockdown last summer. It turns out the book is not the only thing Fearne and I have in common. Find out more here:

Fearne Cotton's, Speak Your Truth, is published today, and I was thrilled to do the book design for this during lockdown last summer. An almighty positive which came out of a terrible year, let it inspire us all to stand tall, look the new year right in the eye and resolve to speak our truth.

JUMP INTO 2021!

With galleries closed again, and the pandemic keeping us reluctantly indoors, 2021 is not off to the best start. However, I have been cheered by designing a poster for an art exhibition in summer which features the painting 'Spray' by Harold Williamson (1898–1972).

It has been wonderful to gaze at this joyful, care-free image
while I work, looking ahead to summer with a glimmer of anticipation. While life may not be ‘normal’ for many months, simple pleasures like sunbathing and jumping into the English sea on a hot sunny day are coming.

As a sea swimmer myself, I’m a huge fan of this painting, and
identify with the anticipation of the girl about to jump into the cold swirling water below. Elegantly poised, with her charming vintage red bikini and white swim hat, her arms thrown up before she takes a breath and launches from the rock, it's a magical moment. (I wish I could be so glamorous!) So lovely to think about summer sunshine and heady days by the sea as I write this in the depths of winter.

This new year feels like a leap of faith, jumping into the swirling waters of 2021 and hoping to emerge smiling!

Our latest gallery design project 'Hidden Highlights: Life in Lockdown' is now open at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth.

Goldust Design chose wall paint colours, designed the gallery typography (from huge vinyl lettering to tiny caption cards) and created the marketing campaign with posters, adverts and social media visuals.

With a change in exhibition schedule due to the pandemic, this was created in record time as the curator gathered images from the archives. It's a stunning exhibition and a thoughtful reflection on how much life has changed this year.

We LOVE the way art and design collides with gorgeous results in galleries!

This exhibition was curated at short notice in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Featuring over 80 works from the Russell-Cotes' rich and diverse fine art collection, this exhibition reinterprets some of their lesser seen works through a lockdown lens, reminding us of life B.C. (Before Coronavir...

So excited to finally be able to reveal one of our gorgeous lockdown projects. 'Bread Therapy' by Pauline Beaumont is published today by Yellow Kite Books.

Designed during lockdown, at a time when flour was scarce and the world was hiding at home, baking for families and coping with the stress of Covid-19, this book could not have been more timely. It was a wonderful, thoughtful project to work on and lovely to collaborate with the author, editor and publisher as we all adapted to working from home in the pandemic.

Buy it now and bake your way back to joy.

Bread Therapy is a calm, reassuring and hopeful book about how the mindful act of making bread can aid our emotional and psychological wellbeing. Goldust Design was asked to design and layout the book pages, creating a typographic design style that reflected the gentle and mindful themes of the book...

A book's contents page is really just a list, but also a great opportunity to design something lovely. This is one of my favourites I've designed, from The British Library's 'Pleasures of the Table'. A delicate colour palette and vintage illustration set the scene for this anthology of food writing through the ages.

Ta da! Hot off the press... Delighted to have designed 'Pacific' for The British Library. It's a rich history of this vast ocean and the book is packed with thrilling tales of piracy, castaways, mutineers, mapping and even early surfing! It was a visual feast to design and so satisfying to take it from screen to real life!

We designed the whole book... the beautifully cloth bound hard-backed cover and every one of the 224 pages. Gorgeous images to work with from the British Library archives and we learnt so much!

Designing cookery books is hard work! Looking at delicious photographs of food makes us sooo hungry 😂 'Tonight at 7.30' is a gorgeous compilation of recipes from a passionate food writer living in the US and UK. It's a self-published, printed colour cookery book we designed for Kristen Frederickson.

A sweet and simple book about making life easier by packing light and escaping outdoors with your children. Watch clouds not telly! We wrote and designed this book to help us learn more about the self-publishing process on Amazon.

We also designed a set of marketing materials for the book... a website, postcards, social media banners and adverts.
