Google Business Profile is a gem of a free marketing tool, get to know it and use it to it's full potential. Formerly known as 'Google My Business' the tool allows you to own your business listing on Google, collect reviews, list services, list coverage areas, add photos, post updates, receive and respond to messages and more.

For good local search visibility a Google Business Profile is ESSENTIAL. If you don't have one already then GO GO GO and set one up RIGHT NOW

And if you already have a profile then please give it some TLC. Have you listed all of the services you offer? Is your location/service areas and your opening hours up to date? Do you have any reviews or could you collect some? Are you doing anything interesting like running an offer that could be shared as an update? Spend some time reviewing and updating and schedule a monthly or quarterly reminder to do it again.

6 PLACES TO FEATURE KEYWORDS - SAVE this one for later

Keywords are core to your SEO strategy but do you know where they should be featured throughout your web pages? This list will help you tick some of the right boxes but remember the golden rule, write naturally for your user and never keyword stuff.

1. Title Tag - You know the blue link in search engine result pages that you click to get to the website and the text in the browser tab of the page you're on, that's a title tag. Feature keywords for the page here.

2. Meta Description - The grey text under the blue link in search engine result pages. This won't directly impact your rankings but is best practise to write a short overview of your webpage that encourages click through and will likely feature keywords.

3. Page Headings - The headings throughout your page are so important, especially your H1 and H2s. Strategically feature keywords throughout. This might be one of the trickiest places to keep it natural.

4. Page Content - An obvious one but not one to be overlooked. Try and feature keywords within the first 100 words of page content and throughout the page.

5. Image Filenames and Alt Tags - Forget image001.jpeg, name your images logically and including keywords relating to the webpage. Don't forget to use alt tags to ensure accessibility and as a dual benefit to showcase some keywords.

6. URL - Not always possible but if it makes sense then feature keywords within the page URL too. Only do this for new pages you create, unless absolutely necessary and you're putting redirects in place then DON'T change the URL of an existing page

If you need support with your website SEO then get in touch and let's chat about how I can help. My services are flexible so whether you need a bit of mentoring to do it yourself or you want me to take the reigns and do it for you there's options for everyone.

As we're out and about over the summer and maybe away on holiday don't forget to keep supporting small businesses. With busy lives it's easy to forget about small businesses and opt for convenience, please don't.

Here are a few ways that you can support a small business. It doesn't always have to mean buying something:

SHARE - share a small business you love, word of mouth, social media, it doesn't matter, just spread the word

INTERACT - most important on social media, like, comment, save, this all really helps visibility

BUY - an obvious one but if you can then please choose to buy from a small business, it really will mean so much to that business owner

GIFT - a great way to spread the word about a small business you love is to gift from them, often you'll find the most unique and thoughtful gifts from a small business too

Every time you support a small business a real human being is being supported, a family given a bit more financial security and a business being given a chance to continue on and grow.

Another 5* Google review from a happy client. I love empowering small businesses to take charge of their websites and marketing and it makes me so happy to hear Jim call that out. It's true, I'm going to share my 'secrets' with you. I want you to feel that you can do things yourself, I want you to understand how to do things more effectively, I want you to be confident in your abilities and most importantly I want you to succeed.

I worked with Jim aka to provide an audit of his Shopify website and provide a comprehensive report of the changes that I thought needed to be made to improve conversion rate and search presence. Jim was able to work through the report and quickly get to making effective changes across the website. I then worked with Jim further to complete some of the recommendations that required specific knowledge but also kept Jim up to date on what I was doing and how he could replicate these actions moving forward.

If you need some support with your website or online marketing then get in touch and let's have a chat about how I can help you.

And if you're in the market for some industrial style furniture then Jim is your man!

6 key elements of SEO

1. Keywords - Know your keywords, what are people searching for that matches what you do/sell. Use them wisely in headings, content, alt text, image names but don’t keyword stuff. Write naturally and for your user, not google.

2️. Links - Internal, External and Inbound. Provide useful links within your site and externally to other sources if relevant. Understand what backlinks are coming into your site.

3. Usability - Make sure your site is easy for your user to use. Optimise for mobile users, make links easily clickable, don’t cram your pages full.

4. Website structure - A good site structure is easier for user to navigate and easier for google to crawl. Moz is a great resource to look to for education around all things SEO including site structure.

5. Content - Write useful, authoritative content for your user. Write naturally about your area of expertise/industry.

6️. Speed - Optimise your site speed, minimise media file sizes, remove unused plugins. Run a google speed test to see how your site performs.

Fun fact, my career started at Microsoft so I have a bit of a soft spot for Bill. And these are very wise words so should be shared.

All too often we try to bury our failures and focus only on success and positive moves forward. However there is a lot than can be learned from 'failure', if we use our failure in a constructive way and analyse what didn't go to plan and how we can adapt then we make positive progress forwards.

Optimisation is defined as 'the action of making the best or most effective use of a situation or resource' and very often this involves learning from failure and using it effectively to make improvements.

Has this struck a chord with you? What 'failures' have you learned from and how did you make the best of them?

You're going to want to SAVE this one!

With holiday season upon us it's sometimes hard to take control of our to do list and not feel overwhelmed. This handy little matrix has helped me time and time again to take stock of what I need to do and how best I can get it done.

I first discovered this matrix when managing a team but it works just as well for prioritising your own workload. It's all about assessing the importance and urgency of each task and then treating each task according to where it fits in the matrix.

Important & Urgent - DO IT - You need to get that thing done, it's top priority
Important but Not Urgent - SCHEDULE - It doesn't need to be done right now but you do need to come back to it and not let it drop off the list
Not Important but Urgent - DELEGATE/OUTSOURCE - It needs doing quickly but it's not important enough that only you can do it. Hiring a VA can be a great way to delegate/outsource without a team.
Not Important and Not Urgent - ELIMINATE - Get rid of that task, if it's not important or urgent then it most likely doesn't need to be done.

I hope this helps you get organised and stay away from overwhelm. Breaking things down into smaller tasks and having a prioritisation model to follow really helps.

If you want some 1:1 support to brainstorm, streamline or prioritise your business marketing then get in touch and let's work out how I can support you.
