At the inaugural Female Founder UK Founder Live event at Teesside University this month, award-winning designer Kate Fearnley shared a raw account of the highs and lows of being a female founder.
During our fireside chat in front of an audience of education leaders, captains of industry, finance experts and female founders, Kate shared the highs of winning awards, dressing celebrities and having her own collections stocked in 80 bridalwear boutiques across the UK. She also shared the lows - the pressures behind the scenes of keeping up with demand, long hours, cashflow issues and trying to keep up with the shifts the industry underwent during and after Covid.
Kate was forced to close her business after 24 years in October and she has kept a very low profile since but inspired by the support she received from Max Freer and Female Founder UK, she decided to do a live interview with me at the FFUK event.
It's fair to say you could have heard a pin drop during the interview.
This is why we're hosting these vital conversations and this is why we're not just going to talk about the fact that only 2% of funding across the UK goes to female founders, we're going to galvanise action.
Right here, right now.
Because Kate - and every female founder - deserves it.
