Every year around this time I start hearing the same thing:

“My ads aren’t working like they were.”

Sometimes that’s true, but before you blame summer, it’s worth looking at what’s actually changed. Summer affects different businesses differently. For some, it’s peak season and for others, things naturally slow down.

People’s routines change, what they’re interested in changes, the way they spend their money changes, so it makes sense that the ads that worked in January might need a bit of a refresh by July.

That doesn’t mean rebuilding everything from scratch.
Sometimes it’s just:

👉 A new hook
👉 A new creative angle
👉 Updating your offer
👉 Testing something you’ve been putting off

I hear this a lot, and every time someone takes the leap and runs their first Meta campaign, they come back and say the same thing.

“Why did I wait so long?”

You have to be ready for it and embrace it, because it turns out you can teach an old dog new ticks (I only started this in my late 30’s)!

Here’s what’s been keeping me busy behind the scenes this month.

Refreshing Godstone Farm’s ad strategy and building out a brand new campaign for their Summer Campout. One of my longest standing clients and still one of my favourite briefs to work on.

More enquiries than ever and proposals flying out the door. Honestly the busiest pipeline I’ve had in a while. Something is shifting right now - anyone else feeling this?

Onboarding my new team member Emma Hughes with shadowing sessions so she can get properly under the skin of how I work and why. Watching someone learn the Mim Mason Method is so rewarding.

I handed over the newsletter management for .uk to Emma too. Delegation is a skill I’m still practising, but she’s making it very easy.

Throughout all of it I’ve been prioritising my mental and physical health, this is non negotiable, no matter how full the month gets.

I navigated ALL of the above whilst living through a loft conversion, the amount of cups of tea I’ve made this month I’d be a millionaire by now if I’d been paid based on that alone.

Oh and I got a tattoo. Because apparently a loft conversion and a growing business wasn’t enough life admin for one month. 🖤

May has been full on. But good full on.

A few years ago, people searched Google for everything, but now a lot of those early “thinking out loud” searches are happening in AI tools instead.

And… it makes complete sense.
Why search:
“best CRM for small businesses”

…when you can ask ChatGPT:
“what CRM should I use if I’m a yoga studio owner with 3 staff?” 👀

But here’s the interesting part from an ads perspective:
The people still searching Google are often the ones closer to taking action.

They’re searching to:
👉 book
👉 buy
👉 compare
👉 enquire
👉 solve a problem NOW

Which means intent matters more than ever.
I actually think this shift is going to force marketers to get better:

better messaging
better offers
better targeting
less fluff

Cheap, low-intent traffic is getting filtered out and it’s probably a good thing.

Big congrats to East of Eden on their new strength studio on Hoe Street, fully booked for the next 2 weeks!

Here’s what we did (and why it worked):

Most launches go straight to selling, but we didn’t...

Phase 1: We built demand before opening
We ran a lead campaign targeting two distinct audiences:
– People curious about strength training
– “Switchers” already training but looking for something more aligned

185 leads generated from people who wanted early access, all synced into their CRM to nurture via email.

Phase 2: Converted with the right message
We followed with an intro offer (up to 4 classes for £30), using the exact creatives and messaging that had already proven to resonate.
Then RETARGETED everyone who had engaged.

Results:
– 85 purchases (so far)
– £4.79 cost per purchase
– 620% ROAS (£6.20 back for every £1 spent)

Simple funnel. Clear messaging. Right timing.
This is what happens when you build demand before you try to convert it.
