This week is Small Business Week! Organised by Entrepreneur’s circle, the event aims to highlight the work of small businesses contributing to the local and national economy.

The UK private sector includes approximately 5.7 million businesses. With small businesses (0-49 employees) making up about 5.64 million of them.

Without small businesses the UK economy would simply not exist.

As a team of 3 full-time staff, we are part of the small businesses revolution that power the country’s economy.

I wanted to share a bit about the company history and the risk/rewards involved in starting a business.

When Think Jarvis became a full-time venture in 2018 – We went from 8 clients to 250 in the space of a few years. Most of our clients are in the Swadlincote, Ashby and Burton area – giving us the opportunity to help hundreds of local businesses grow and develop alongside our own.

After 5 years of trading, I was getting close to 100% capacity, meaning either scaling down and continue as a sole trader or commit to growth and start looking for staff.

Any money spent on developing the business as a sole trader essentially comes out of your own pocket or finance. All companies go through this transition but it represents a calculated risk and substantial personal financial investment in most cases.

Over the past 3 years we have moved into a professional office, become a Ltd company, registered for VAT and taken on 2 full-time employees (including one apprentice).

We are also supporting a Burton College T-Level student who is currently completing their 12-month placement – filling the 4th desk in the office.

Alongside internal business development we have also taken on some of our biggest clients including working with a London-based investment firm and a multi-million-pound online retailer with a regular slot on Sky TV. This is alongside our regular small business offering. Pushing our services forward for all clients including our smallest ones.

Today - Think Jarvis is one of the only companies in the UK offering true private enterprise grade hosting for WordPress sites to ALL customers. Combined with our trade secret performance and SEO optimisations – This means our customers have an edge of their competitors.

We are proud to be sponsoring Forest Town Rangers FC. A not for profit football club in Swadlincote.

The website has been provided free of charge and made an excellent project for our junior designer to improve her skills in our web system.
