We've worked with several dentists over the past year, and it's great to see the positive impact a professional web presence can have on the quality of customer service they offer and the increase in new patient enquiries.

Alongside high-performance, another essential factor for dental websites is GDC compliance. Here are five key elements you need to have on your website to meet the requirements of this...

1) The name and geographic address at which the dental service is provided.
2) Contact details of the dental service, including e-mail address and telephone number.
3) The GDC’s address and other contact details, or a link to the GDC website.
4) Details of the practice’s complaints procedure and information about who patients may contact if they are not satisfied with the response (namely the relevant NHS (or equivalent) body for NHS treatment and the Dental Complaints Service for private treatment).
5) The date the website was last updated.

People are searching online for your services every day, but are they calling you?

If not, it's probably time to review your approach to local search. Here are a few tips to get you started...

Optimise your Google Business Profile (GBP): Add photos, hours, and respond to reviews for Maps visibility.

Get as many reviews on your GBP as possible.

Ensure NAP consistency: Keep name, address, phone number, and web address identical everywhere.

Create service pages for each area you serve.

Build backlinks: Focus on getting links to your website from relevant local and industry websites, local directories, and local news sites.

Fix technical issues: Ensure fast-loading and mobile-friendly design.

Create social media content targeting local-intent search terms.

If you run a local service business, don't sleep on your Google Business Profile! It's the foundation of your online search presence.

At the very least, get these basics right:

1. Accurate and complete information: Ensure your profile is fully filled out; the more info Google has to go on, the better.

2. Customer reviews and engagement: Actively collect positive reviews and respond to all reviews (positive or negative). Reviews build credibility, and consistent engagement signals reliability to both Google and potential customers.

3. High-quality visuals: Photos and videos showcasing your products, services, and premises bring your service to life and make your profile stand out.

Brand management shouldn't just be reserved for the big brands.

While there will be many aspects that aren't relevant for smaller brands, SMEs can still gain a huge competitive advantage from applying the core principles to their business.

Things like:

Deciding how you will position your business in your market. What do you do differently and better than your competitors? What are your strengths? What can you actually deliver against? Whatever you decide to stand for (or against) double down on this and incorporate it into everything you do.

Thinking of ways to be memorable and instantly recognisable. Everyone has a logo, but having a full suite of creative assets working together is much stronger. Sound (jingles!) and characters are great for this.

Running activities that build "fame" in your local market. You want to be the first business people think of when they have a problem that you solve.
