Google has moved the goalposts again. In fact they have taken them down!

Shocking, I know. We are all taking a moment. 😄

FAQ rich results are no longer appearing in Google Search, so the extra FAQ coding is not the SEO win it once was.

But FAQs themselves?

Still useful.

They answer real customer questions.
They reduce doubt.
They make your website easier to understand.

So the rule is simple:

Keep the helpful answers.
Stop sweating code that no longer gives the same return.
Adapt, test, and keep your website useful.

I’ve been doing a bit of thinking about AI and marketing lately… and I’m not convinced AI is the problem.

We’re seeing more of it, aren’t we?

Fake reviews
Miracle products
Convincing adverts that don’t quite stack up
Content that sounds authoritative but doesn’t really say anything

But if we’re honest… none of that is new.

What has changed is this:

AI has removed a lot of the time and effort involved.

So the sort of content that used to take hours can now be created in seconds – and it looks just as polished.

Which makes things harder for all of us.

Because we can’t rely on appearances anymore.

A nice website, confident wording, professional presentation…
AI can generate all of that instantly.

So people are starting to judge things differently:

👉 Does it actually make sense?
👉 Does it feel consistent?
👉 Does it hold up when you look a bit closer?

In a world where there’s more noise than ever:

The things you can actually rely on become more important.

And that’s where good businesses have an advantage.

The ones that:

say what they mean
don’t overpromise
and actually do what they say they will

…become easier to trust.

AI isn’t the issue.

It’s just made it easier for people to put more out into the world – good and bad.

So I suppose the real question is:

If your website isn’t generating enquiries…

Stop sending more people to it.

That might sound counterintuitive, but it’s true.

More traffic won’t fix:

👉unclear messaging
👉too many choices
👉no obvious next step

It just amplifies the problem.

Fix the experience first.
Then promote it again.

User behaviour has changed. Most marketing hasn’t.

People decide faster, read less, and won’t work to figure things out. If your message isn’t clear within seconds, they’re gone.

This isn’t about doing more. It’s about removing friction, simplifying the journey, and making it easy to act.

If things feel harder than they used to, this is why....

Marketing didn’t suddenly stop working. Behaviour changed. For some time, I have had an uneasy sense that something in marketing felt different.
