Seeing a sudden drop in your Google Analytics traffic can be unsettling. We’ve seen this happen with some of our clients and below is what we told them.
This is not a real drop in website visitors.
What you are seeing is a change in what Google is now legally allowed to track. Google has tightened enforcement around GDPR and cookie consent. When a visitor clicks “Reject cookies”, Google Analytics must stop tracking them. Across aesthetic clinic websites, around 40 to 60 per cent of users decline cookies, so those visits no longer appear in Analytics.
In short, your patients have not disappeared. Just their data has.
What does this mean, its only the reporting thats changed, not your website performance.
Your SEO remains unaffected.
Your paid advertising remains unaffected.
Patients are still finding and visiting your website as normal.
Now for the positive, if this has happened to you, then most likely your website is now more GDPR compliant, which protects your clinic and keeps you aligned with Google’s requirements. Remember - You can still view genuine SEO performance inside Google Search Console, even when cookies are declined.
If you are an LTF customer and our preferred Cookie consent tool, “CookieYes”, is not live on your site yet, we are looking at rolling this out with you soon, and will contact you if any action is needed.
If you have questions about a website that LTF do not manage or your current website that LTF do manage, simply message us. We will always translate the technical details into clear, practical guidance so you can stay focused on patient care.
