This quote has resinated tremendously with me, especially as my business is a personal brand (where you create a brand around a person rather than a business).
I pride myself on being approachable, supportive and creative personally but also professionally. These are my brand values (the beliefs that you, as a business, stand for). I aim to communicate these within my business whether I'm talking to a client, writing copy for my website or sending an email. It's just who I am and this matters most to customers and clients because they like authenticity.
So, do you know your brand values? If not, stop, reflect and write down what comes to mind.
How would you describe yourself? Are you a serious person? Do you have a quirky personality? Are you spiritual? Do you have a bubbly, warm presence? Are you into technology or more traditional? Do you have a desire to constantly learn? If you're struggling, ask friends or even past clients to describe you or what it was like working with you.
If your brand isn't personal then imagine your business as a person. What would they be like? How would they act? Reflect on this and you may just find what your brand values are. This can then inform your messaging, tone of voice and contribute to you brand identity. As a result, your brand will become consistent and that leads to brand authenticity, building customer or clients' trust and loyalty.
