SME Cornwall No-nonsense business strategy and marketing support

Have a new business and don’t know where to start with marketing it?

1) Write a content plan. This just needs to be a spreadsheet (or list with dates on) saying what kind of things you could post about and when you will do it.

The important thing is to make it sustainable. So if you can only post once a week, do that but every week. If you can post every day- great! But don’t start posting every day and then give up after a fortnight

2) Choose which channels you’re going to use - I would suggest starting with Facebook if you’re a B2C business and LinkedIn if you’re B2B. It may be worth looking at launching Instagram too if you can cope with both (and you’re good at taking pictures) - but as I said above, stick with what you can manage and keep up!

3) This goes hand in hand with 1 really - but thinking about your content you need a range of types - you were a cafe you could do menu previews, lifestyle type posts, health posts, nice pictures of locations, happy smiling customers etc - it should be a good range of types of things

4) don’t expect to get hundreds of followers overnight - the important bit is that they’re relevant! So for a cafe that would be people who are local and will use your cafe and centre - you don’t want thousands of followers from all over the place.

Hopefully that gives you somewhere to start!

So you’ve found us. But why would you use us?

Outsourcing your marketing can help you get where you want to be quicker, with less overheads than employing full time staff to cover all marketing specialisms.

Outsourcing is particularly useful for businesses looking to grow as it provides more scalability and flexibility than an internal marketing team. We can also help refine your offer and find your audience.

What’s holding you back?

Is there a future for the old fashioned office? Who doesn’t like a meeting with biscuits and coffee but we do our work where we want to.

3 in 4 managers feel that ‘collaborative’ workspaces are more suitable for their post-lockdown business models when compared to a full time staffed office.

Being Authentic

I've been doing a lot of thinking recently, about who I am and what I want to be; about the different roles I play as , and about the kind of things I want to work on and want to achieve.

We all wear different hats for different groups - be it in the office, at a meeting, at home, or at a party, but it's amazing how quickly people can see through it if you're not being honest, if you're not being authentic. You can only make meaningful connections when being yourself.

The same can be said of your . The way you operate, your website, your sales emails and social feed must be authentic. Customers know what your business does - and what it's like to work with you, and they will see through anything you create that doesn't sit true.

It's as, if not more important when attracting new customers. We buy from people we trust and who we believe understand us and our requirements.

So before you launch a TikTok or Snapchat account - take a moment. Where are your customers? What do you stand for? Are you able to give it consistent and considered attention? When you look back on it in 5 years will you be able to stand by it? Are you being true to your brand - or are you reacting to a trend?

You'll make better connections if you're being yourself.
