We’re so conditioned to optimise every minute that we’ve forgotten something important.

Ideas need white space just as much as businesses need structure.

Humans are not robots: we’re designed to pause, replenish and renew… but changes to the way we live and work mean we’re under huge pressure to not take it, to ‘optimise’ our time and cram our brains to the max.

But there’s nothing optimal about dropping the proverbial ball… which is far more likely to happen if we try to hold everything alone, or forsake the pause in favour of productivity.

When was the last time you took a pause? If you need it, bookmark this post for the next time you need permission to take a breath 🛟

Grey days | Glimmers | Gratitude

It’s been a monumental week, a rollercoaster of a month. I’m still not ready to talk about the cloning of my accounts, the impact, the stress or the devastating way this has messed with my head (my accounts are locked down and uber protected but this has been one of the biggest headaches in 20-odd years of doing business online).

But rather than over-think about how difficult this will make any launches this month, or possibly next, I’m just gonna crack on. So there will be more posts reminding you lovely lot about what I do, how I work and the kinds of businesses I support. And if I’m feeling g chatty you may find yourself with a DM from me :)

Summer in Cornwall is stop-start; after a heatwave sizzler is this week has been damp and misty: But beautiful even on the drizzle days and I’m savouring every moment because this fills my cup.

Rain or shine there will be more to come because it is these moments in nature that enable me to deliver the very best work even at times of challenge. Not always picture p effect, but always part of the story:

will be the usual bursts of cloud p**n, forest runs and solo camping trips (aka CEO days. Rachel-style 😉)

Destination tourism business

Full marketing stack - marketing + content strategy, website updates, paid ads, SEO, UGC, blogs and database/email marketing, social media including YT + Pinterest, team training /upskilling.

In real terms we sold to capacity for peak weekends, filled low season capacity plus 17% and delivered the best performing Black Friday campaign in 4 years. Totally lush brand collabs and influencer campaigns.

S H O W N O T E S 💥
340% reach increase during campaign period
9% conversion increase (from 2% to smash through the 10% target which was high and set before my time)
13% inc website traffic, 28% inc returning visitors
7% compound growth of email and social community
Full customer journey re-mapped, offline and digital channels aligned with content and campaigns.

This was a short term, high-impact project with a fabulous team who had such big vision and huge energy. I don’t often get the scope to lead with data or use database marketing to its full advantage when I work fractionally and short term, but this was a joy. I loved my days on site and this day with these skies was such a beautiful gift for a winter content creation day.

ps - bookmark this post and when you need short-term marketing support, a Google and Meta advertising campaign or cover because your indispensable Marketing Team is dangerously overstretched and needs support while you hire… drop me a message

In marketing, I used to dress alignment up as finding the niche, the words or the strategy that feels right because it flows, and doesn't much feel like work.

In Human Design, I talk about the pillars that show us we're walking the path we're designed for and the signals that tell us we're living - and working - in alignment -

But I’m beginning to think it’s something much simpler.

Perhaps being aligned in business is by doing the marketing that naturally emerges when your business is no longer organised around protecting a version of you who you outgrew.

And when you have enough self-belief to truly start creating marketing and messaging from your gift, your work doesn’t become louder but it does get easier. It just sits with you like the shoes that are not only super comfortable... they look pretty good, too.

And perhaps that’s why the most powerful marketing strategy isn’t really about marketing at all. It's about a journey to better self-trust and seizing the confidence that defeats procrastination instantly; and clears the way for heart-first, active marketing. The kind that nurtures sales and doesn't just provide so much value that people never need to get off the fence and buy from you.

Thoughts? Hop over to Substack and let me know what you think. I'll leave a link in Stories if you don't follow me there already.

In other news, after a L O N G time in Meta jail, some trouble with cloning and malicious reporting... it's good to be back on the grid. Let me know what you're up to by dropping a link to your most recent post or send me a voicie in DMs.

Pines and skies. Walk and talk.

Early morning marketing meeting with the joy of being outdoors with a lovely local client. Our agenda was very sales focused, lots of chat about our email and database marketing strategy for the summer. And where to find hidden opportunities.

Also discussed the energy it takes to be brave when you’re out of the rhythm of regular marketing. And somegood strategies to deal with this, because feeling out of control can trigger huge stress… and inertia / procrastination (the biggest enemies of marketing and sales) can quickly set in if left unchecked.

All so productive…. before 9am!

How did your day start?

There’s a specific kind of tired that we feel when marketing doesn’t feel like it’s working. It’s an ‘extra’ tired feeling.

It doesn’t look like burnout from the outside, because stuff is ‘going on’. The posts go up and there are probably strategy documents… somewhere.

But something just feels a bit flat.

The confidence that shows up easily when you’re with a friend, talking about the work you love?

The quietly confident mantra you recite every morning that reminds you that you really are on the right path?

Or the high-fives you give yourself when a sales call goes really well?

When marketing falls flat it’s nowhere to be seen. None of it.

The moment you try to do some marketing or recap your one-line-pitch when you’re networking? It all just disappears.

Oh, you know you have something worth saying. Always. But you just can’t find the words.

And when we feel like marketing isn’t working, it can all snowball. Without realising that things are changing, you look back on your month and realise that you quietly become… quiet. And this is the last thing you wanted.

So many of my clients describe a reluctance with the ‘getting visible’ side of marketing that pops up from time to time that they can’t fully explain. It’s not shyness, it’s more specific: a sense that they’re showing up… but unless they absolutely had to, they would choose not to.

But where does this come from?

This isn’t about finding the ‘right’ platform. And it’s not always happening because you have the wrong voice. And the advice that when you have content that exists with a clear reason then consistency naturally follows? It’s not so simple as that.

But when it fits.. it works. It does’t start with a content plan or a 5-point process. It starts with a deep and instinctive understanding that you know exactly who you’re talking to.

Complete clarity on what they need, why they’re looking for it…and why *you* specifically are the right person to provide it.

So where do we find it? How do we get it back? And how do we hold onto it?
