In case you missed the news, last week we took the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards judges out to say thank you for all the effort they put into the not-for-profit scheme.

We asked them if they fancied doing it all again in 2027 and they said YES!

So, we're now starting to prepare for next year. We can't make work without sponsorship and although first refusal will be given to our current sponsors, we're always on the look out for new organisations that want to support the local media. This week Reach plc announced the closure of Kent Live - a very sad day for local journalism.

Competition is healthy - it makes everyone strive to be better. Cuts over recent years have shrunk the local teams so much it's no wonder Kent Live wasn't performing as well as other sites in the group.

Over the years, the company has seen some fantastic journalists come and go, many of which were recognised at the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards. Look how big the teams used to be!

People don't want to pay for local news, and they certainly don't want adverts, so what's the answer?

Just another standard day at Maxim - hanging out with some re-enactors, the local MP, VIPs and 40 children 😂

We were very happy to be involved in running this event for Southeastern at Hastings train station, marking the unveiling of King Harold II, their newly named train celebrating the events of 1066 and the Bayeux Tapestry's return to the UK for the first time in nearly 1,000 years.

Huge thanks to Quartermaster Historical Events for helping with the re-enactors and amazing medieval musicians Myal Pyper.

As usual, Andy Jones went above and beyond to get some great photos (these are BTS, not his which are much better!)

The Government’s decision to pause Local Government Reorganisation leaves Kent and Medway with familiar councils, fresh uncertainty and a sharper political contest in 2027. Our MD Andrew Metcalf considers what it means for Kent and Medway in his latest article.

We don't know if we're going to run the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards next year. We love doing it, but it's an awful lot of work and we have to cover the costs (not our time!) with sponsorship.

To help us decide, we've been gathering feedback from Kent's journalists. A massive thank you to Joe Coshan for his comments. It's honestly humbling to hear what means to people.

"A phrase that haunts reporters everywhere, but the Kent Press and Broadcast Awards gives us a rare chance to step back and reflect on the stories that really matter to the county we serve. So many of us in this profession carry a bit of imposter syndrome, and a day of recognition from fellow journalists can be a real boost in what’s often a thankless job.

"It’s also one of the few times we get to come together with our peers without a deadline hanging over us - building relationships with sponsors and local businesses along the way that we can take well beyond the event itself.

"When I first started out as a journalist in Kent, my goal was simply to be nominated at the KPBAs. To have since won Kent Broadcast Journalist of the Year two years running means the world to me.

A lot of our work is quite serious so it's nice to get the opportunity to do something a little different occasionally.

Last week we helped AirHop Tunbridge Wells launch its new trampoline park and now we're watching the press coverage filter through. More to come as we'll have to wait for the monthly lifestyle magazines.
