It’s British Carrot Day, and we’ve been having a little fun with our carrotastic mic kit - it’s rather technical 🤣🥕🎤

Yesterday we shared some of the challenging realities growers have faced this year. Today, we thought to join in on the creativity and share the carrot industry’s favourite way to eat carrots!

What we love about their answers is how simple they are. You don’t need to jazz up your carrots to make them fun and tasty - raw or roasted seem to be the popular choices!

So, now we want to know… what’s your favourite way to eat carrots this ?👇🥕

What a way to kickstart October! ➡️ Swipe to the end for the UK’s largest carrot field ever grown😲🥕🇬🇧

The JCM&Co team had the pleasure of joining our client’s annual Carrot Demonstration Day - celebrating its 25th anniversary and the biggest event of its kind yet 🥕

With 39 exhibitors, from seed and machinery specialists to agronomists, and more than 250 industry visitors, everyone came together across a 270-acre field to look at the many varieties grown by seed companies, find out more about the latest innovations and discuss opportunities to help future-proof the industry.

Despite the many challenges presented by the weather this year, we were amazed by the optimism and resilience of the industry remains - and we couldn’t have felt more welcomed - as we always are!

Like many farmers across the UK, carrot growers have been hit hard by the drought. Crop production has been severely impacted, with some crops failing completely and dying off at seedling stage due to a lack of rainfall and limited access to water for irrigation. The cost of producing British carrots is significant, while the returns remain incredibly low - add crisped crops into the mix and that’s a seemingly impossible loss to come back from!

That’s why we’ve been working with the British Carrot Growers Association (BCGA) on campaigns to raise awareness of British carrot production and encourage people across the UK to buy and eat more British carrots 🥕

And this Saturday 3 October is British Carrot Day - a campaign we set up three years ago to do exactly that!

Carrots deserve a day of celebration, and the UK deserves to know just how incredible they are. From sweet to savoury, roasted to raw, there’s so much you can do with this wonderfully versatile, nutritious and vibrant veggie.

We’ll be buying our carrots today and getting creative in the kitchen. We’re encouraging you to get involved to - buy your British carrots, cook up something delicious and, most importantly, support our brilliant British carrot growers by sharing it wide across social media using the hashtag 🇬🇧🥕

🌾 We’re right behind Regenerative Farming Week and supporting farmers who are changing the way they farm to restore soil health, support biodiversity, and to build a more resilient and long-term food system. Not everyone can farm this way, but those who can are part of a growing community, learning every day and making small changes over a long time, which, when done well, amount to great outcomes for human health too. 👏

🌱 What does regenerative farming mean for you?

🍞 It could mean eating bread made with wheat grown on a farm that nurtures its soil, packed with good bacteria and fungi, in turn passing top quality nutrients into your loaf, for your gut (you!) to benefit from. Eurostar Foods provide regen flour, and more.

🥩 It could mean enjoying omega-3 rich beef, raised on herbal-rich pastures, the cattle selecting the plants they instinctively eat for health and growth, creating a beautiful meat, boosting your iron levels, your protein intake and providing you with collagen, as well as vitamin B12.

🥔 There are so many ways to enjoy regeneratively farmed food, and farming this way can look different on each farm but the principles - spelt out on the Groundswell Agriculture tea towel - are the same: diversity, protect the soil’s surface, livestock integration, minimise soil disturbance, maintain living roots.

As the wonderful Tim Parton of The Green Farm Collective says:

🗣️ "Our soils is our greatest carbon storage facility."

Regenerative Farming Week is led and sponsored by RISE Re:Gen to champion this incredible way of farming, for the future, across the entire supply chain and we really enjoy seeing the community develop, and hearing about the many positive changes happening on British farms.

🤩 A huge congratulations to our client, Farmlay Eggs, for winning such an honourable and well deserved award at the National Egg & Poultry Awards last month 🎉

Did you know they have expanded their business to work with over 30 producer partners, increased their team to now 100 members, and return over £650,000 every week to the Scottish agricultural economy?

An Eggcellent family and business to work with and we’re very eggcited for their future 👀 🤩

Farmlay and its partner suppliers now total 1.2 million free-range hens, with a goal of reaching 1.45 million by October.

🎥 🗣️ A glimpse behind the scenes of some of what we do - and the fantastic people we have the pleasure of meeting along the way.

Yesterday, some of the team visited Ardross Farm Shop on behalf of one of our clients, spending time with the family behind both the farm and the shop. It was a brilliant opportunity to hear their story, learn more about their business, and capture what makes Ardross so special 🚜 🌾

Be sure to give them a follow: Ardross Farm and pop by some time 🙌

🌾🚜 The dust has settled on the 162nd Turriff Show, Scotland’s largest two-day agricultural show, and the one closest to many of our team’s homes. This is the ninth year that JCM&Co has been supporting this dominantly volunteer organised event. We’ve been doing the marketing, social media content, PR and, this year, curating the speakers at the all-new Business Hub - a dedicated space for people to gain industry insight, network and socialise.

Today’s agricultural shows are so marginal when it comes to keeping afloat, and it’s such testament to the community support and the belief of exhibiting and sponsoring businesses that this event continues to have the capacity to innovate and grow.

The scale of what this show achieves is staggering - 24,000 visitors, 300+ exhibitor stands, 1,554 competition classes - everything from vegetables and home bakes to vintage tractors, cattle, horses and sheep. The prize money awarded is significant too - £88,000 and over 330 trophies, every one of them contributed by people who have loved the show for well over a century and a half.

A huge thanks to our fabulous Lois Campbell who has given so much to keeping the show’s news and social media fun and fact filled and beautifully vibrant. And for making sure the fabulous journalists who come to support the show have all they need. And to Jane Craigie for pulling together the Business Hub sessions.

It’s an overused phrase, but it really is a privilege to be a part of this region’s history and its farming sector. And for the six of our team who live here Jane Craigie, Lois Campbell, Katie Insch, Mike Whittall, Heather Elstone FCCA and Andrew Williamson, it’s even more special.

We’ve kickstarted our , supporting the new Business Hub and chairing a series of insightful sessions with businesses and industry leaders, from across the region and beyond.

The Turriff Show continues to be one of the North East’s most important agricultural events - bringing together rural enterprises and wider business communities. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect, share ideas and celebrate what makes our agriculture industry so incredibly innovative and strong.

We’ll be around the showground over the next two days, so if you’re attending, we’d love for you to say hello. You can find us in the Business Hub or dotting around the show ground capturing glimpses of the show buzz and its magic 🪄 🚜
