🎉 I’ve been blown away today by the news that I’ve been shortlisted for the Independent PR Practitioner of the Year award!

I’m honoured to be listed alongside four other brilliant PR professionals doing outstanding work in their businesses.

The next stage is a panel session before the winner is announced at the awards night on Wednesday, 2nd July.

Best of luck to everyone who’s been shortlisted—see you there!

❓You’d think that after 25+ years in PR (plus 5 in broadcast journalism), I’d have it all nailed by now.

But honestly? You never stop learning.

I still do CPD. I still volunteer with the CIPR (currently helping set up a new group for independent PRs).

And I still surround myself with people who challenge me and teach me new things.
Because staying sharp matters.

It’s the same for the founders and marketers I work with.

They often know how to do PR. But actually doing it? That’s the hard part—especially when you’re juggling a hundred other things.

That’s why I offer PR consultancy through for founders who want to hand it over.

And coaching and workshops through for those who want to learn how to do it themselves—with some proper support and accountability along the way.

My next press release writing workshop is on 27th June—if you want to write something journalists will actually want to publish, I’d love you to join me.

We all need a bit of structure and support sometimes—even the experts.

Hi! 🌟 I’m so excited to welcome all my new followers!

To celebrate, here are some fun (and very random) facts about me…

1️⃣ I once trained a parrot to deliver press releases.

2️⃣ I narrowly missed out on a role as an Emma Thompson body double.

3️⃣ I can recite the entire periodic table backwards.

4️⃣ I hold the world record for the fastest tea-making in Britain.

5️⃣ I once gave PR advice to an alien (they were struggling with their media image).

None of those were true (sadly). But here are five real facts about me:

✅ I started my career as a BBC and ITN TV and radio reporter.

✅ I’ve worked on PR campaigns all over the world, including in Saudi Arabia, Canada, Kosovo and Gabon.

✅ I once felt close to a breakdown while juggling a corporate job and a newborn with feeding difficulties.

✅ I was a regional semi-finalist in a national Sudoku competition!

✅ I have been scuba diving in countries including Japan, Borneo and the Bahamas.

📣 Want to write a press release that grabs media attention for your business?

Here are six quick do’s and don’ts to help you get it right:

✅ DO:

✔ Make it newsworthy

✔ Write a strong headline

✔ Lead with the key info

✔ Include a compelling quote

✔ Use supporting facts and data

✔ End with contact details

❌ DON’T:

✘ Make it too salesy

✘ Bury the lead (your newsworthy angle)

✘ Use jargon or buzzwords

✘ Send it without proofreading

✘ Forget to include media assets

✘ Spam journalists

Who inspires you?✨

The other day, my daughter gave me a picture she’d made for International Women’s Day, which made me reflect on the incredible women who have influenced my journey—personally and professionally.

From school and university to my career in journalism and PR, I’ve been lucky to meet women who have inspired me, shared wisdom and offered support in so many ways. I’m grateful to each of them.

Kicking off the week with some exciting news! Last week, I had a fantastic meeting at Dalcour Maclaren’s HQ near Bicester, and I’m thrilled to share that they’re the newest client of Positive Story Limited! 🎉

Dalcour Maclaren is a leading specialist in the utilities and infrastructure sector, helping to drive the UK and Ireland towards a cleaner, greener future. Their expert teams in land surveying, referencing and geospatial planning unlock the consents needed for major energy, water, transport and digital infrastructure projects.

They are uniquely focused on utilities and infrastructure—nothing else—which makes them true specialists in their field.

I’ll be working with them to raise their profile as the go-to one-stop-shop for consents, showcasing in the media how their expertise is shaping the future of energy and infrastructure as we move towards net zero.

✨ And clearly, Justine, their Head of Marketing and PR, and I are already thinking along the same lines—we turned up wearing almost identical outfits, despite this being the first time we met! Great minds... 😆
