Is it just me? Or do you do this too?
I stood in front of a room and pitched myself recently.... I’m relieved to say that my pitch was accepted too! Yet, ever since I’ve been playing over the answers I gave during the Q&A section, second guessing myself, thinking I could have said so much more, given better answers.
It's weird how it has stayed with me... I’m forgetting that I’ve already been accepted! I’m forgetting that they chose me because of what I did say, not what I didn’t.... And I can prove all the rest of it at a later date as I get to work with them in the coming months.
I'm often speaking in front of groups or crowds, and people ask me about confidence in public speaking or say it must come naturally to me, but the confidence comes from doing it over and over. Getting comfortable in the discomfort. Every pitch, every presentation, every room, I've learnt and improved, and I've come to realise people are rooting for me, not waiting for me to fail.
So I’m looking ahead with confidence that people are supportive and putting their trust in me. not rehearsing what I should have said, and showing up ready to do the work and let my actions speak louder than my words ever could.
