ACCOUNTABILITY STARTS WITH OURSELVES

Standards should not only matter when somebody is checking.

They should matter when nobody is watching.

At the Northern Trade Guild, we believe genuine accountability starts with the individual.

It means turning up when you say you will.

Communicating honestly when something changes.

Taking pride in the work that will never be seen once the job is finished.

And when something does go wrong, taking responsibility and putting it right.

These are not qualifications you can hang on a wall.

They are choices we make every day about the kind of tradespeople, business owners and professionals we want to be.

But there is another layer to Guild membership.

When we carry the same badge, **we give one another permission to expect these standards from each other.**

Not to catch each other out.

Not to sit in judgement.

But because the reputation we are building belongs to all of us.

A strong Guild is not created by rules alone.

It is created by people who hold themselves accountable first, and respect their fellow members enough to expect the same from them.

When you become part of the Northern Trade Guild, you are not simply adding another badge to your business.

And that creates a responsibility for all of us.

That is why we want to build something deeper than a directory, accreditation scheme or marketing platform.

We want to build a genuine fraternity of tradespeople who are proud to associate with one another and prepared to hold themselves, and each other, to the standards that association represents.

A Guild is not a qualification.

We have received a number of questions recently about qualifications and certifications required by the Northern Trade Guild.

It is an important question, but it also gives us an opportunity to explain what belonging to a Guild means.

Professional qualifications matter. Where a trade requires specific qualifications, registrations or competencies, Guild membership is not a substitute for them.

But that is not what the Northern Trade Guild exists to be.

We are building something based on integrity, responsibility, professional pride and accountability.

A qualification can demonstrate what you have been trained to do.

The Guild represents how you choose to conduct yourself while doing it.

Our ambition is to bring together good tradespeople who are prepared to stand behind their work, respect their customers and uphold standards that strengthen the reputation of everyone carrying the Northern Trade Guild badge.

That badge should have value because of the people who wear it.

And the stronger those people make the Guild, the stronger belonging to it becomes.
