I thought it would be a good idea to post a little update, because look who went all quiet again! 🙈

Having spent the last 8 months getting my new venture off the ground and devoting all of my working time to it, I’m excited to be adding in a new challenge and returning to work with a previous client as of tomorrow.

So what does this mean?

✋ Currently I don’t have any capacity to take on any additional freelancing work I’m afraid.

🙋‍♀️ I do however know some great local freelancers if you need support, so please just ask and I’m happy to recommend them or even point you in the right direction of the support you might need. I know it can be a bit of a minefield working out what kind of support you need.

❤️ I’m a massive geek when it comes to marketing, so if you have any burning questions or are after some quick advice, feel free to drop me a message (this a genuine freebie, I’m happy to help).
It’ll save my husband having to listen to me boring him senseless as I analyse adverts and marketing campaigns because I’m missing helping people with their marketing challenges.

The only caveat is I may not get back to you quickly, but I promise I will!

Wish me luck! 🙌

Just wanted to check in and say hi! Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be mostly out and about enjoying the Easter holidays with my boys (not sure how I’ll top cuddles with Little Wilma the lamb yesterday!), and fitting in some work planning as and when I can.

I will officially get “back out there” from mid April when my youngest starts nursery (eek!).

If you’re looking for marketing support in the near future then get in touch and we can have a chat about how I can help.

It might be:

🚦Getting you started- whether it’s a full marketing strategy, a product launch, helping you understand who your customers are and where to find them, or just helping you formulate your own plan. If you’re just starting out, or don’t know where to start with your marketing, let me help!

📞 Getting you back on track - if you would like a 1:1 as you have specific questions or would like to bounce ideas off me, that’s also an option, so you can get exactly what you need.

⏰ Getting your time back - are there things you don’t have time for and would like me to pick up, so you can focus on your business? Either one-off or ongoing. Perhaps website updates, social media, competitor analysis or creating a content calendar and bank of ideas for you to use?

🙋‍♀️ Getting you a marketing manager- Need someone to manage all or part of your marketing for you? I’m your girl! It’s what I love!

These are just a few ideas and there are so many more ways I can help, so if you’re in a marketing rut, get in touch and we can have a chat

It’s hard to believe it’s been 2 years since we were locked down.

I was happily contracting when Covid put an abrupt end to my contract.

At 5 months pregnant and with a 3 year old at home full time, we decided the best option for our family was for me to take early maternity leave, so my husband could concentrate on his job, and so that was that, Little One Marketing was on pause.

Our new normal became daily long walks as a gang of 3 - me, my toddler and the dog. We baked, we crafted and we got very inventive with how to pass our time.

Looking back, there were positives:

🐢 I slowed down, I’m not very good at that.
🌳 We explored new parts of our village we’d never been to.
🚲 Our 3 1/2 year old learnt to ride a bike- no stabilisers, an actual bike! We’d never have had time to help him do that normally.
👶 I had a homebirth- the last thing I thought I’d be up for but it was magical!
❤️ I checked in on friends more
🐶 We tried Dog Yoga 😂

Today is . Yes there were incredibly sad times in lockdown, but today (and it’s really hard as I have both boys driving me crazy at home 😂) I’m trying to focus on the positives.

What were yours?

I’m baaaaaaaaack!!

Anyone out there?! I know I’ve massively neglected this page while I’ve been launching Mum's guide to Hitchin but it’s taken up all my (very limited) time for the last 6 months.

😱It’s less than a month until the littlest one starts nursery, so I need to get my planning hat on!

✅ Website (desperately) needs updating

✅ Revisit what I “do”

✅ Spruce up the CV for agencies (do we even do CVs anymore??)

✅ Get some projects on the go

If you’re in need of marketing support, or know someone who is, please get in touch and save me the hassle of the above To Do list, as I’d much rather spend my time actually doing marketing 😂🙌

As many of you know, I’ve been on maternity leave, so Little One has been paused.

Well, it’s going to be a bit longer before I can do any marketing freelancing because I’ve taken on an exciting new venture starting up Mum's guide to Hitchin.

It's going to have everything family-related all in one place, including local clubs and classes, schools, doctors, party entertainers, what's on in Hitchin and the surrounding areas, and so much more!

No more trawling the internet or posting on local Facebook groups asking what's on- it will all be in one place!

Please follow or share with friends who’d be interested ❤️

You don’t need to spend money to get noticed!

Sure, there are many times when investing money in your marketing is the right thing to do, but there are plenty of ways you can get noticed for free.

Here are just 5, but there are so many more I could recommend.

🔍 Google Business Listing – Even if you don’t have a website, a Google Business Listing ensures you automatically appear on Google maps and in searches. You can also ask customers to leave reviews and create events, maximising your exposure.

📻 PR – Sure, you can pay for a full page ad in a local magazine, but go direct to local papers, radio or even TV, and you’ll often find they’re desperate to speak to local businesses. Even better, write a brief press release, include some pictures, and having done the legwork for them, you’re more likely to get coverage. This week, I got my client Mama Baby Play a feature in The Comet, along with a radio interview on BBC 3 Counties, by focussing on the fact the reopening of indoor hospitality would be big news.

🗣 Speak at an event - Speaking at a local event not only gets your business known locally, but it can also position you as a credible expert in your field and open up many different opportunities. You’re an expert at what you do, this is a great way to show people that.

👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Facebook Groups – create a Facebook group related to your industry, key target customers, or local community to provide useful content to a group of people who may require your services.

❤️ Referrals – how many times do you see people in Facebook groups asking “Can someone please recommend a ?” People like to work with someone who’s recommended by their peers, so building your network and a good reputation are key ways for people to do your marketing for you.

Any gems to add?

Did you know it’s Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week this week?

As a mum of 2 young children, I’d like to think I’m very honest about the highs and lows of motherhood...ok perhaps a little too honest at times, but personally I think that’s a good thing.

If I’m asked how they’re sleeping or how we are, and it’s a bit of a challenging time, I’ll say. Some people think that’s moaning and move on, but for others, it’s a relief to hear that other people find it hard at times too.

All too often, social media only shows us the smiley joyful family pics, or the parenting bloggers who swear every other word to get a laugh, so we laugh along too, not realising that behind every post and picture, everyone has their struggles one way or another.

Being a mum is the best job in the world, but it’s also the hardest and I’m not saying every social media post is a lie, but remember people don’t tend to share the hard times, so it’s important to reach out to friends and ask if they’re ok. Allowing them to be honest, without fear of being labelled a moany mum, might be just what they need.

My moany mum inbox is always open if you need to talk ❤️

3 years ago my friend unexpectedly shared my website I’d been working on every evening when my little boy was in bed. I was holding off telling people I was now a freelancer- a sense of imposter syndrome I think, having spent so many years in full time employment! I saw his post on Facebook and thought “sh*t, I really am doing this now, it’s out there!”

3 years after starting out, I still feel it’s the best decision I ever made to get the work/life balance I craved now I’m a mum, and I’ve loved every single project and contract. I’m back doing more work for the fab team at baby play as my first project post baby number 2 and am so glad I took the leap to leave my full time job and start Little One Marketing.

Now to find the time to get the website updated and back online!

So good to be starting on the Mama Baby Play relaunch plan today ahead of the Government’s Step 3 May 17th plans, and even better I could do it from home around my 8 month old, as my husbandhas the opportunity to take shared parental leave through his role at Unit4.

As a lockdown baby, Joshua has not been away from me at all, but he had a great time with daddy today, which is so important for their bond too.

I feel like Mother Pukka would give a 🙌 to this little setup right now 💕

Tomorrow I’m mixing up work and mum life with a sneak peek at the Mama Baby Play space first thing to help with plans, a Hartbeeps: Hitchin, Letchworth, Stotfold, Luton and Dunstable class late morning with Joshua, and training with Social Pip in the afternoon. Bring it on!

It’s been a while! 🙋‍♀️

I thought I’d say a quick hello and (re)introduce myself.

I’m Lucie and have been a freelance marketing consultant for 3 years having decided not to return to my role at TUI after having my first little boy.

I specialise in brand marketing, customer experience, social media, email marketing and product ownership.

Most of my projects have involved working with small businesses to help them understand their customers better, launch a new business, or review and revive their marketing.

I love working with small businesses, helping to make marketing simple, fun and cost effective for them.

I’m not an agency, I’m anti jargon, and I’d like to think I bring a bit of fun and creativity to help your business be the best it can be for your customers.

I’m currently on maternity leave with my second little boy and although I’ve taken on one client this week (yay!) I’m trying to enjoy a longer maternity leave, given we’ve spent most of it in lockdown, and the pair of us are itching to get out and do the things you’re meant to do on mat leave.

I’m always happy to answer any questions or try to help with any challenges you’re having, so please feel free to drop me a message anytime.

As a freelancer, going on mat leave this time round was very different, compared to being full time employed with my first.

No leaving lunch, gifts from colleagues or handover emails. One day I just hit send on my last project and turned the laptop off. Anticlimax or what.

Then today I received the most thoughtful, beautiful gifts from Hoxby, the freelance community I’ve been a part of for over two years. I’m so lucky to be part of such a caring team of people I’ve never even met 💕

It’s great to have gone out on a high!

I’m officially on mat leave now and couldn’t have asked for a lovelier pair of clients for my last project, helping Nick and Linda from Brilliantin Recruitment with their brand and marketing strategy for their new recruitment business. Not forgetting the fantastic Samantha King Design for designing their logo.

With the baby due any time now, work is off the table for a while, but I’ll be on Instagram still and need to keep my brain ticking over, so if you have any marketing questions, feel free to send them my way and I’ll do my best to help!
