What are featured images and why are they important?
A featured image represents your post's or page's contents, mood or theme. They are used to complement the content on a page visually and break up long sections of text. They should help to tell your story while strengthening the visual identity and style of your brand.
When creating a featured image
- Be consistent with your styling. Use similar fonts, colours and layouts so your customers or potential clients know and realise your brand.
- Choose images that are eye catching and descriptive, you want to draw in your readers, not turn them away. If you share your post’s on social media, it will be the first thing people will see so you will want it to act as a magnet to help spark interest and attention.
- If your image has one subject, be sure to focus on that subject. Any background ‘noise’ may distract the reader and won’t offer anything valuable.
- Be careful of white spaces around your images, you want your readers to know where your post begins and ends. This can be facilitated by a distinct separation between featured images and all other content.
Remember, your featured image is crucial in drawing readers in and persuading them that the material is worthwhile reading. Additionally, a post that includes an appealing and useful image is far more likely to be shared with others.
