This Men’s Health Week, we’re reflecting on the power of awareness campaigns in helping people take action.

At Hitch Marketing, much of our work focuses on turning complex health information into clear, accessible messages that encourage real behaviour change. Whether it's increasing awareness, encouraging conversations, or helping people access support, effective communication can play an important role in improving health outcomes.

One important reminder this week: local pharmacies can provide quick and convenient support for a range of men’s health needs, including advice, vaccinations, and health checks.

Sometimes the first step towards better health is simply knowing where to start.

🎉 The B Corp movement is turning 20!

What started in 2006 with just 82 pioneering companies in the US has grown into a global movement of more than 10,500 B Corps across 104 countries, including over 2,700 here in the UK. Hitch has been a B Corp for over 6 years and was one of the first in the region.

Over the last two decades, B Corps have challenged traditional ideas of business success, proving that companies can balance profit with purpose and create positive impact for people, communities, and the planet.

To celebrate this milestone, B Lab has released its special-edition 2026 Impact Report, featuring:
✨ An interactive timeline of key moments in the movement's history
✨ Reflections from founders, leaders, partners, and changemakers
✨ Insights into how the movement has evolved
✨ A collective vision for the future of business

We’re incredibly proud to share that Hitch has been shortlisted for two awards at the Prolific North Creative Awards 2026. The shortlists are:

⚪ The Creative for Good category for our Bowel Cancer Awareness work with Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance

⚪ The Branding & Visual Identity category for our work on Speak out Space Hate Crime Hub with Leicestershire Police.

The Bowel Cancer campaign was co-created with residents of Cheshire and Merseyside, and focused on increasing awareness and uptake of bowel cancer screening through clear, accessible and behaviour change-led communications, helping encourage more people to complete their home testing kits and detect cancer earlier, when treatment is most effective. Take a look at the campaign here: https://www.hitchmarketing.co.uk/case-studies/bowel-cancer-screening-campaign/

The Speak Out Space Crime Hub supports both the public and professional partners by signposting to relevant reporting tools, definitions, personal stories, and local support services. Its primary goal is to offer a trusted online hub where residents and stakeholders can access and share information to take action against hate crime. A huge thank you to our team, partners and everyone involved in delivering such important work that has the potential to save lives.

It’s British Sandwich Week 🥪

Food plays such an important role in our everyday health choices, and small changes can make a big difference over time.

At Hitch, we’ve worked on a range of behaviour change campaigns helping people make healthier, more achievable choices around food and wellbeing. From the ‘Medway Can’ Healthy Weight Challenge, which encouraged healthier eating through simple swaps and community challenges, to Norfolk’s Ready to Change campaign, supporting people to build healthier habits around diet, activity and lifestyle change.

The most effective health campaigns aren’t about perfection, they’re about making positive choices feel realistic, accessible and sustainable.

Sometimes even your lunch can be a good place to start. 🥪

We’re incredibly proud to share that Hitch was awarded the St Philip’s Centre Diversity Award by Leicestershire Police last night, recognising the impact of the Speak Out Space initiative.

The award celebrated the project’s success in “transforming hate crime awareness through inclusive communications, multilingual access and strong community representation - ensuring every resident can seek support with confidence and dignity.”

Speak Out Space has been built around the belief that everyone deserves to feel heard, supported and safe when reporting hate crime, and this recognition is a real testament to the collaborative work that went into the project. Take a look at the project on our website: https://www.hitchmarketing.co.uk/case-studies/speak-out-space-hate-crime-hub/

A huge thank you to our partners, community organisations and everyone involved - and a special shoutout to the Hitch team, whose passion, creativity and commitment helped bring this initiative to life. And a huge congratulations to all the other award winners and commendations💜

As we approach Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re reflecting on the role that insight-led campaigns and interventions can play in helping people feel heard, supported and able to take action.

Mental health does not sit in isolation. It is shaped by the environments people live in, the pressures they face, the habits they form, and the support they can access.

Through our work, we’ve seen this from different angles:

From Draw Your Own Solution, supporting young people to express what good mental health means to them, to our alcohol consumption reduction work, which focused on helping people recognise the physical and mental benefits of drinking less and take small, achievable steps towards change.

From our research with WeMindTheGap, exploring young people’s lived experiences of anxiety, disconnection and uncertainty, to the Stay Alive su***de prevention campaign, which promoted accessible support for people experiencing suicidal thoughts, or those worried about someone else.

Across these projects, one thing is clear: effective mental health communication starts with listening, and then designing around how people actually think, feel and behave.

That means using behavioural science techniques to reduce friction, build confidence and make positive action feel achievable. Whether that is reframing messages to reduce stigma, using social norms to show people they are not alone, creating simple prompts to encourage help-seeking, or breaking behaviours down into smaller, manageable steps, the aim is always to make support easier to notice, understand and act on.

This Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that campaigns can do more than raise awareness. They can connect people to support, encourage conversations, and help create the conditions for change.

As we are nearing the end of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the importance of early detection and open conversations around symptoms.

We’re proud to have worked alongside Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance to deliver campaigns that raise awareness, challenge barriers and encourage more people to take up screening.

Our approach is grounded in behavioural science, drawing on COM-B and the Health Belief Model to address perceptions of risk, severity, benefits and barriers. Take a look at the case study on our website to learn more about what we do: https://www.hitchmarketing.co.uk/case-studies/bowel-cancer-screening-campaign/

👉🏻Ketamine Insights - Cheshire Police

We recently worked with Cheshire Police to establish an evidence base for how to tackle the rising rates of ketamine use and its health consequences in the area.

✍🏻What We Did
We conducted a rapid, mixed-methods insight project rooted in the COM-B model, including:
∙A survey about ketamine awareness and perception, filled out by over 650 residents.
∙In-depth focus groups with high school students as well as young adults in a rehabilitation centre for ketamine use.
∙On-street engagements organised via Hitched Communities and facilitated by Street Angels Chester

👀What We Found
The findings paint a complex picture of a drug that's highly accessible and deeply intertwined with the mental health of young people in Cheshire.

Ketamine is alarmingly cheap and available 'quicker than a pizza' in some areas.

Dealers aggressively market on platforms like Snapchat and Instagram using gamified tactics, including spin-the-wheel giveaways and scavenger hunts.

Many young people are aware of the possible health outcomes associated with ketamine (like 'ket bladder') but see its use as very normalized and visible in peer groups, even at school.

Campaigns and materials would benefit from being community-lead and supportive messaging would be most effective.

These results demonstrated how meaningful prevention requires a compassionate, whole-system approach. Contact us for more details or how we can help in your local area.

Many thanks to the partners and team members that helped make this research happen - we're confident that it'll result in effective and insight-driven campaign activity to improve the health and wellbeing of young people in Cheshire.
