I have recently launched my Start-Up template website offer but I do keep getting asked what is the difference between a template and bespoke website? Will it do the same job? Why is it so cheap?

Are you ever just aware that it’s time for a change or a pivot on what you do?

The thing is, I love working with charities, community groups, and ethical small businesses to build accessible, bespoke websites. It’s the part of what I do that makes me proud.

I simply love supporting worthwhile causes whose primary aim is to do good. By making sure their websites are accessible and easy to manage, I feel I am adding to their efforts.

I am aware though of the ever-growing pressures on charities financially. Funding for small charities is growing harder to find, and for new community groups and CICs, funding is even more scarce. Charities are facing rising costs, a lack of manpower and resource; and more than ever need to get their message out there via a strong website, with little budget to throw at it.

Ethical small businesses and startups face the same challenges and it’s very clear that they can’t afford a custom website until their business takes off.

This all got me thinking about what a more sustainable way to keep running my own business could be. I want to continue helping the organisations I care about, as well as having time for my own personal needs and plans.

Jackdaw is 10 years old this month. Can you believe it? Cos I can't!

What started as a way to escape from the grindstone of life in corporate IT has turned into something I never quite expected — a business I genuinely love, working with people and organisations that care about doing good in the world.

Over the past 10 years I’ve built accessible websites for charities, community groups, and ethical businesses all over the UK. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s always felt worthwhile.

I was delighted to build a website last year for St John's Killingworth Parish Church.

They approached me saying that they needed a smart looking website that showcased all the work they do for the community in order to support their funding bids to get the money for an extension, finishing the work left unfinished 150 years ago.

I'm over the moon to read that they have secured both funding and planning permission. Result!
