Here’s 7 things most Electricians get wrong with Google Ads:
1. No clear goal.
You don’t “run ads”. Your goal sis to generate phone calls or form enquiries. That’s it. If you’re not tracking cost per lead, you’re just guessing.
2. No conversion tracking.
If you can’t see exactly which keyword brought the call, you can’t scale what works.
3. No negative keywords
Google shows your ads for irrelevant searches all the time. If no one is checking weekly what keywords aren't working, you’re wasting money on clicks that don't apply to your business.
4. Display network left on.
Most electricians don't realise it’s active, or even know what it is. For smaller budgets, this wastes ad spend.
5. Running ads when no one answers the phone.
If a missed call sits for 30 minutes, that job is gone. Schedule adds to be live only when you will pick up the phone. Not 24/7.
6. Too many keywords too fast.
Start small - 3 to 5 ad groups only. Kill losers quickly, double down on winners.
7. Not using Google’s AI.
Collect data first. Then switch to smart bidding once you have conversions. Most people skip this data collection phase.
The result?
High cost per lead.
Low quality enquiries.
“Google Ads don’t work.”
They do...
But only when it’s structured properly and optimised weekly.
Most electricians rely only on word of mouth and leave jobs on the table each month.
