Great to catch up with export director for Europe José Ignacio Bascuñán, and bump into a familiar old face from my Pernod Ricard UK days (Adrian Atkinson).

📣 As I pass my one year anniversary supporting the rapidly growing , I’m in awe at what this fabulous business is achieving and the top industry names it attracts.

Seasoned industry expert Gordon Buchanan (formally BrewDog) has joined DKG’s incredibly talented team to lead their ambitious EMEA and Travel Retail growth plans.

Gordon will be focussed on elevating their core brands including Ukiyo Spirits, Jawbox Gin, Born Irish Whiskey, Bowsaw American Whiskey and Kadoo Rum.

His appointment follows earlier senior hires including Donal McAteer as Chief Financial Officer, Ryan McFarland as Chief Commercial & Strategy Officer and Ali Pickering as Chief Marketing Officer.

🍻I’m very excited to be starting 2025 supporting the fabulous .

Their bold and flavourful craft beers offer benchmark expressions across a wide variety of styles, whether that’s their newly launched Hilltop Lager, delicious IPAs, indulgent stouts or tangy sours.

From their humble beginnings in an old chicken shed high up on a hill, 1000 feet above sea level, they now brew more than 10 million pints a year which are sold in the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons, as well as overseas.

Here’s to supporting their mission and passion for creating bold and flavourful beers for the many.

🎉 Happy New Year! It’s started with a nice accolade for my client Morandé Winery with their Terrarum Patrimonial Sémillon wine in Waitrose & Partners being called out by the Guardian as 1 of 3 wines beautifully bringing some key 2023 wine trends to life (the potential of old vines).

This wine has proved a big hit having also been recommended on Saturday Kitchen, as well as by a raft of well-respected wine writers.

If you haven't had a chance to try it yet, I highly recommend checking it out.

🎂 It’s my birthday today and I got quite a few ‘drinks’ themed cards - it seems my friends and family know one of my passions well!

My interest in drinks started when I was working in the US at a PR agency in St. Louis, Missouri. One of my clients was the gentleman who created the blueberry muffin at Starbucks, who then went on to create various flavoured spirits.

I later went on to Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser) and then Pernod Ricard UK where I gained my WSET Advanced Level 3 Certificate from the .

You can't help but feel like doing a 'happy dance' when your Chilean wine client achieves their first UK supermarket listing 👏.

Morandé Terrarum Patrimonial Sémillon 2022 is now available in Waitrose (£9.99).

This dry, fresh and juicy wine is crafted from old vines in Maule Valley that express the unique Chilean terroir by offering beautiful notes of citrus fruit, pear and honey.

👀 Check out Morande's new Adventura (Adventure) Winery, a modern winemaking facility dedicated to innovation.

Located in Pelequén in the Cachapoal Valley, it's equipped with some of the latest technology to experiment with new varieties, test innovative fermentation and aging vessels, and try out new techniques.

It is allowing Morandé to generate greater knowledge and understanding that can be applied across the entire portfolio to continue delivering a range of authentic wines that suit the needs of today, while getting ahead of the trends of tomorrow.

The wildfires in Chile have got the drinks industry looking at the extent of the damage and how producers have been affected.

My wine client's vineyards in the Maule Valley (Morandé Winery) have thankfully not suffered any impact.

In the Itata Valley, they're taking measures to prevent any impact on the final wines by extracting as little as possible so that the smoke in the skin of the grapes isn’t absorbed into the final wines using a combination of:

▪️ Shorter macerations
▪️ Soft extractions
▪️ Constant testing to reduce contact between the skins & the must

While all producers will have all been affected to some degree by the smoke, how much is yet to be determined. Since it’s a hilly area, there may be sectors that are less affected. Ripening is another factor; if the grapes had not yet undergone veraison, the impact of smoke taint will be less.

Huge thoughts going out to all producers affected - its truly catastrophic for any producer to lose a vineyard, especially smaller producers and those with century-old vines.

When you go to meet with your luxury garden room client, and this is their home office 👀.

Talk about work from home goals; you really can't beat working in the backdrop of nature within the peace and tranquillity of your own garden.

When you work from home, what space do you use?

I'm lucky to have a dedicated home office, but having a multi-functional garden room that can double up as an office and a place to entertain at the weekends is on my ‘life goals’ list.
