The people you build with have a funny habit of becoming part of the life you are building too, I feel so very grateful to those people who have joined me on my ‘business’ journey.

Business pretends to be about strategy decks, invoices, targets and sensible shoes.

In reality, it asks rather more of us.

Trust, candour, patience, boundaries, the ability to have an awkward conversation without turning it into a small constitutional crisis and, every now and then, the grace to say, ‘Yep. That one was me. I got it wrong.’

The best working relationships I have had were never built on agreeing all the time, but seeing the whole person and the whole picture.

They were built on being able to disagree without making it personal, to speak plainly, to listen properly and to know that a difficult number is just a difficult number, not a character assessment, and I think warmth matters far more than we give it credit for.

Warmth does not mean woolly standards, kindness does not mean avoiding the hard conversation.
Quite often, it is the thing that makes the hard conversation possible.

So choose the people who care about the work, yes, but also the humans doing it.

The people who make the day feel lighter, even when the work is heavy.
The people you can laugh with in between the spreadsheets.
The people whose company leaves you feeling more like yourself, not less.

Because a successful business should leave more than revenue behind.

If we are lucky, it also leaves us with a handful of people we are genuinely grateful life introduced us to, and that feels like a pretty decent return on investment to me.

Who are you glad you get to build with? 🤍

Can AI build your website or landing page, oh yes, and so very quickly!

Can it tell you why a real person should trust you, which quiet doubt is stopping them from enquiring, or whether your lovely new form actually sends anything to anybody, and finding you is well, unlikely.

No..sorry

AI has made website design faster, more accessible and far less daunting for founders and small businesses, that is genuinely brilliant: But a commercially useful website still needs to understand the person reading it, and it needs clear positioning, thoughtful copy, buyer psychology, a sensible journey and all the unglamorous technical bits working quietly behind the scenes.

In other words, AI can help us build the front door. Whatis behind the door need human thinking deciding where it leads, who it is for and whether anybody feels inclined to knock, and return.

Over the next six weeks, I have room for two website projects, plus a small number of website audits and broader 360° business reviews.

If you have built something clever with AI that is not quite ready for the world, or your existing website looks lovely but is not doing enough for the business, DM me. I will bring clear eyes, commercial thinking and no unnecessary technical bamboozling.

We live in a world that applauds momentum, its relentless, feel it to?

Keep going, keep posting, launching, spending. Keep smiling as though the plan is definitely working.

But continuing is not always courageous, and pausing is not always fear.

Sometimes your instinct has noticed what your conscious mind is still trying to explain away: The energy has changed, the numbers are resisting. The opportunity does not feel quite as good as it looked on paper. You are working increasingly hard to persuade yourself that something is right.

The difficult bit is knowing whether your gut is protecting your wisdom or protecting your comfort.

I often ask myself this:

Am I stepping back because this feels frightening, or because something important is trying to get my attention?

They are not the same thing.

Some pauses are not procrastination, they are discernment, and they are the quiet moment in which we stop performing certainty long enough to hear what we already know, and trust it, having a great business partner or coach to pick this up and chat this through with helps.

Has your gut ever known something before the rest of you was ready to admit it?

Q4 has a habit of arriving before the plan does.

Then someone opens Ads Manager, chooses a budget that feels plausible and hopes the dashboard will explain itself later.

It rarely does.

If Meta ads are part of your Q4 thinking, my course will help you make the important decisions before the money starts moving.

It is for founders and marketers who want to run campaigns themselves, as well as those who outsource to an agency or freelancer but still need to understand what is working, what is not and what the reports actually mean for the business.

You will learn how to assess whether your offer and lead journey are ready, set a sensible test budget and decide what to keep, fix, stop or scale.

The founding price is £295 until 31 August. The price rises on 1 September.

Ads Manager is perfectly happy to let you improvise. Your business may be less enthusiastic.

A high click-through rate can still be an expensive business mistake: The dashboard can look reassuring whilst the economics quietly fail.

Clicks cannot tell you whether the offer was ready.

They cannot tell you whether the leads were valuable, whether the follow-up worked or whether another pound of spend is justified.

Before a campaign begins, agree four things:

1. The commercial outcome that matters.

2. The amount the business can responsibly spend to learn.

3. The route from response to sale.

4. The evidence that means keep, fix, stop or scale.

That is the work that turns advertising activity into a commercial decision.

The free Meta Ads Readiness Check will help you see what is ready and what needs attention before the campaign begins.

Take it at:

Save this for the next time a dashboard looks encouraging.

A good Meta ads course should teach you when not to spend.

I know that sounds like an odd way to sell a course:

It is also the reason I made it.

There is plenty of training that will show you where the buttons are, but this is for founders and marketing teams who need to understand the commercial decisions behind them.

Meta Ads That Make Commercial Sense helps you work through readiness, margins, budget boundaries, audiences, creative briefs, measurement and the rules for deciding whether to keep, fix, stop or scale a test.

You do not need to become an Ads Manager expert, although you will become that too!

You do need to know whether the investment case makes sense, and what evidence should justify the next pound.

Eight modules. The Meta Ads Decision Tool. Twelve months of access.

Founding price: £295 plus VAT until 1st Sept (normal price £495)

The people who love, live with or spend time with a founder often become the business’s unofficial board.

They hear the idea before it has been packaged up with a name; they live through the launches, the late replies and the dinners where your body is at the table but your mind is still rearranging a proposal.

They celebrate the wins, they absorb more of the uncertainty than we always notice; and occasionally, they remind us that a walk by the sea is not a reckless abandonment of our responsibilities.

This photograph was taken on holiday with my partner, who has shared far more of the emotional weather of running a business than any job description could reasonably cover fortunately he runs his own business too, so we are both guilty!

It has made me think about the peculiar bargain many founders make with themselves: that rest will begin when the work is finished.

The difficulty, of course, is that the work never clears its throat and politely announces that we have done enough, and I am not sure our minds do either.

Research into small-business owners and recovery is rather less romantic than hustle culture: Time away that gives us relaxation and a genuine sense of choice is associated with better wellbeing and lower burnout. That matters personally, but it matters commercially too; tired founders make narrower decisions. Overstretched founders become the bottleneck in businesses they built to create freedom.

If your business exists to improve other people’s lives, it should not require you to neglect your own; or the people sharing it with you.

So this Bank Holiday, I am not going to tell you to be more visible, post more often or squeeze a strategy session between lunch and the washing up.

I am going to suggest something more useful: be where your feet are.

The inbox will still be there tomorrow, the people beside us deserve more than whatever attention the business leaves behind.

What boundary helps you remain a person while you are building the business?

With warmth,

Mimi
