There are fundamental checks that should always be carried out when running ads.
When auditing ad accounts and campaigns, I’m often surprised by how frequently the basics are overlooked.
Some of the most common issues I come across include:
✅ Multiple overlapping ads driving up costs
✅ No Ad Account created - running ads through an agency account or personal account
✅ No pixel attached
✅ Pixel not firing correctly
✅ Incorrect campaign objective
✅ Broad match keywords in Google Ads attracting irrelevant traffic and wasting budget
✅ Poor ad strength (Google)
✅ Outdated or irrelevant ad copy (I saw one last week still mentioning "coming up in 2024")
✅ Google Tag requiring attention
Each of these issues leads to wasted spend.
Running ads isn’t a quick or passive process. It takes ongoing management and strategy. Given that it’s my full-time job, that should tell you how much time and attention campaigns really need!
