We’ve heard you, and we’re sorry.
We introduced Content Ratings without clearly explaining their purpose or effect on pricing. We’ve read every message, email and comment. The wording and structure made creators feel their work was being judged, censored or penalized. That was never our intention. We understand the anger and concern this caused, and we should have handled this better.
Mixam was built to remove the barriers to print and provide the best possible offer across price, quality and turnaround. This commitment hasn’t changed and we continue to print the same range of creative work as before, including mature and explicit content.
We work with a network of print partners, each with its own content policies. The rating helps ensure your order is routed to the appropriate supplier with the best offer. With a smaller pool of suppliers available to produce an order, this naturally may affect the originally quoted price. Any difference comes from supplier availability, not from a fee or premium added because of the content. We do not increase our margin based on a Content Rating.
Previously, NSFW content was identified only after artwork was submitted, causing rerouting and delays. Asking earlier is intended to provide an accurate price and turnaround upfront, not to restrict creative expression.
We know this does not make any significant price difference acceptable, nor should it. It has exposed gaps in our production coverage that we’re actively working to address.
Our teams are:
- Reviewing the rating language and structure of the different levels.
- Updating our calculator and guidance to explain the process and pricing impact clearly.
- Monitoring supplier availability and pricing, investigating significant differences and working to improve coverage.
These improvements will take time, but the work is underway. If you experience a substantial price difference between ratings, please send your quote number to [email protected] so our team can investigate.
Thank you to everyone who spoke up. We're constantly striving to improve and we wouldn't be able to do without your passion, patience and candor.
