This week's Cloud Of Dust Re-Imagined release is Waiting.

Back in 1984, using a home computer to program a musical melody was still cutting edge, but that is exactly what Andy did with his Sinclair ZX Spectrum to create the backing melody for Waiting. Andy recalls, "I showed Steve the melody I had created and he suggested we turn it into a Cloud Of Dust song."

As usual, the original recording was built with whatever was available, including ice cream carton percussion and additional Casio VL-Tone parts. Steve then insisted that Andy should take the lead vocal while he provided a backing monologue. "Steve wanted me to use his improvised lyrics technique, which I knew I wasn't as good at, but I gave it a go." The result was certainly unusual.

For the Suno re-imagining, Andy worked hard to preserve the original ZX Spectrum melody. Although Steve's backing vocal was reduced to a single opening line, the final version became a stand-out Cloud Of Dust track that breaks the rules, but somehow works.

This week's Cloud Of Dust Re-Imagined single release is Living In The Cloud.

Living In The Cloud is one of the few early Cloud Of Dust tracks conceived from the outset as a purely instrumental piece. Andy recalls, "It was always going to be an instrumental and was never intended to be a backing track for Steve to sing to."

As with several recordings from this period, he supplemented the rather thin Casio MT-70 rhythm section with homemade percussion, famously using an upside-down ice cream carton to add extra depth and texture. The track highlights Andy's growing confidence as a keyboard player and his increasing mastery of multi-tracking, despite working with only the most basic equipment.

For the re-imagined version, Suno expanded upon the original arrangement while respecting its melodic foundations. Andy was particularly pleased with the added musical variety, including well-placed key changes and new instrumental flourishes that helped bring the composition to life. The result is a richer, more dynamic interpretation that retains the spirit of the original recording while benefiting from a more polished and professional production.

We've improved and simplified the layout of our handwriting fonts website to make it easier to find the products and services you need.

As part of the update, we've moved away from organising fonts by printer type and now categorise them by their key features:

• Fonts with character variations
• Fonts without character variations
• Signature-only fonts

This new structure brings our handwriting font products and services together in a more consistent way and should make navigation much more intuitive for both new and existing customers.

We're always looking for ways to improve, so we'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions. Let us know what you think of the new layout and whether there are any further improvements you'd like to see.

Bob, our AI assistant, takes extended leave!

Whilst Bob has been brilliant at helping our Jigsaw Doctor customers with questions about replacement jigsaw pieces, he has recently become increasingly confused by the growing complexity of our handwriting font services. In the end, we found ourselves spending as much time correcting Bob as we would simply chatting directly with customers!

The good news is that, whilst training Bob, we built a comprehensive support knowledgebase packed with answers, guides and information:

We’ve therefore decided to send Bob off on an extended vacation and return to good old-fashioned human customer support. From now on, the knowledgebase will be visible at the start of every chat to help customers quickly find answers.

There’s lots of Cloud Of Dust news this week!

First up is this week’s single release - a brand new re-imagining of Jayne.

Jayne holds a special place in the Cloud Of Dust catalogue as the very first successful AI re-imagining experiment. Originally recorded for the New Domain album in 1992, then revisited for My Sahara Life in 1993, Andy Hunt always believed the song had greater potential waiting to be unlocked. That promise first started to emerge with the 2024 “proof-of-concept” AI version, showing how modern technology could breathe new life into classic Cloud Of Dust recordings.

Now in 2026, Jayne has been completely rebuilt using Suno’s more advanced AI technologies, bringing the track fully into line with the atmosphere and sound of the My Sahara Life album. The result is richer, more polished, and even more professional sounding than the earlier 2024 interpretation, while still preserving the emotional core and melodic spirit of the original.

We’ve also officially released the My Sahara Life album.

Following the experimental close of New Domain, Cloud Of Dust returned in 1995 with My Sahara Life - an exploration of dreams, love, loneliness, anger, and alcohol. Originally recorded between 1993 and 1994, the album includes four re-recorded tracks from New Domain alongside a new version of You Knocked Me Down from the Excalibur album.

My Sahara Life was a landmark release for Cloud Of Dust. It was the first album recorded using true multi-tracking on a four-track home studio, replacing the earlier bounce recording methods. It also introduced digital effects, MIDI sequencing, true sampling, live drums, and rock guitar into the band’s sound.

Highlights include the dreamy I Dream Of Eyes featuring Simon Pratt’s bass guitar, shimmering keyboards, sensual saxophone, and sampled drum loops. Meanwhile, Pigeon Head delivers upbeat funk-rock energy with Andy Hunt on drums, ex-Burning Chrome guitarist Danny King-Britten on lead guitar, and Simon Pratt on bass.

This week’s featured Dream Aquarium backdrop is No. 74.

Backdrop No. 74 creates a beautifully balanced aquascape scene with large natural grey rock formations surrounded by lush green planting, soft mossy textures and vibrant aquatic foliage. The combination of smooth stones, subtle lighting and colourful fish gives the aquarium a peaceful yet lively atmosphere that works wonderfully in Dream Aquarium’s animated environment.
